I don’t think it’s only BTS, although they have contributed a lot. It’s like the entire hallyu wave including the rising popularity of Korean beauty, dramas and music, which is making people pay attention to quality Korean content

Plus just the fact that both squid game and parasite were pretty original and captivating in the landscape of endless remakes and superhero movies

They wouldn’t be hyped if they weren’t entertaining and clever though

Sure recognition can be because of normalization which occurred due to the rise of kpop popularity spearheaded by BTS’s popularity.

I’m sure there are plenty of good Korean movies and tv shows but why right here right now.

Also I think it’s interconnected. These blowing up also in turn increased exposure to kpop. For example how Lisa Money went viral along with Squid Game.
