The leader position in groups

  • I noticed a difference between the leader-position in KPop groups compared to JPop

In KPop it is often the person who looks like if they knew how to be the leading person inside a group/community and you often as a fan can see how they menage to get their group together and depending on it the leader-position is also one that shows the most strenght among the group.

In JPop I noticed that groups often just adress someone as a leader and than that person either has no plan what to do, gives a fuck or is about to almost give up

Example: I saw a English subed interview from a Japanese gameshow some years ago in wich during a task a woman asked two member of the JPop-group THE RAMPAGE why they would have two leaders. Zin who is one of the two leader said: "In school I was a class representative and leaded my class during a sports-event, but since a boygroup is totally different I would become very lost if I would lead them alone". In the boygroup MADKID the member said that Youta is actually a great leader even if he does nothing with his position and Youta than just said "I don't do much about my position as a leader cause I have no plan what a leader has to do" In JO1 Sho was asked why he became the group's leader and he just said "Cause my member said so".

I never heard of a KPop-group where the leader admited not knowing shit about his position or getting lost in it. Most people in KPop seem to either not say much as being the leader of a group, but you see their leading-work or they tend to be proud as a leader of a group. JPop on the other hand seems to have more of the oposite type of people as a leader.

  • I never really thought about it. Now seeing this it makes kinda sense lol why many Japanese groups often don't have leader when people don't know what to do. I wonder for groups in Japan who have a good leader if they also just trew it on a random member and said "you lead us" or if their company decided it haha. I mainly get the point in KPop groups but never really thought about it with JPop

  • Sometimes I've seen the leaders in kpop are often the ones who have stayed in the company for the longest. There are other members that can lead the team better but respect is given to the time they've spent in the company. Ig so that they can guide the rest of them around the company and how it it works especially as trainees and then they probably get the hang of it. But when members pick I think they also often go for members in the hyung/unnie line of the group.
