did sm drop exo and red velvet?

    Approved the thread.
  • Aren’t most of Exo in the military.

But I guess sorta? Exo’s contract renewal is next year and after that some members may leave and most will want to focus more on solo work. It’s not like they are abandoned but they are entering the next part of their career.

  • That's the way of the industry as groups disappear with solo work and military service, newer groups must be pushed so yes, SM is pushing Aespa and NCT more. Taeyeon seems big public wise so I'm happy they're pushing her.

  • aespa cleared RV in their debut year and reveluv only have Irene to blame anyway. EXO as a group is on their last leg, SM is only interested in maintaining the popularity of the members they think will stay in the agency after disbandment

  • lmao they were dropped

  • EXO were dropped in 2016/17 since when is this news :pepepizza:

EXO are successful despite SM not because of them. :pepepizza:

  • and Reveluvs and exols swear they keep SM lights on lmao NCT units outsell them both and now aespa outsell hag velvet

  • SM never cared for Red Velvet anyway, it seemed like they didn't care that much to make them there big focus

EXO yes they were dropped faster than they should have, SM is stupid EXO had the chance to hold on to their status for more years but alas, they were dropped

  • They might be phasing them out because of contracts coming to an end. I doubt all of Exo will renew and red velvet is still iffy. So it's better to milk them as much as possible while also setting up newer groups to take their place. Aespa and NCT have pretty much replaced their sunbaes already, both are the biggest BG and GG sellers in SM.

  • reveluvs became mys

exo-ls are still around but chen probably had impact on gp and digitals

  • exo was dropped when bts rose. sm realized they cannot compete so they created the avengers of kpop. superm did not work. some members of both groups are in military now. they are currently trying with nct.

with rv, they are in a phase where most members are not 100% in music anymore, yeri, irene and joy are doing acting now. it makes sense if sm's focus is aespa. aespa is sm's revival.

  • I mean, RV is going to return soon with a Japanese comeback and a Korean album, so while they might not be the main focus for SM, I don't believe they have been forgotten about.

As for EXO, a lot of members are in the military so like... yeah. But we've been seeing a few solo activities here and there at least.

  • They dropped exo long time ago, i think they dont care much about RV too rn but since they're public's favorite gg since debut it'd be sm's worst mistake to drop them.

Exo was the only sm group who had the most potential to break into western market i wonder what was going in their minds when they chose superm over exo.

  • Once SM groups get established enough SM seems to put them on the backbunner and focus on their new acts

  • I've heard this said a lot and I find it weird so please explain Exo's potential for the western market. They were clearly targeted at Asia since the start after all.

they have more potential than nct

nct's concept is hard to market in the west, but still doing pretty well.
