RAY's Depth Study
In this series, I aim to deconstruct, evaluate, and analyse the features that form a K-POP release with the intention of highlighting the themes and features that form the release.
This series will analyse the concept of a release alongside it’s musical features to form an evaluation of what makes the release compelling to particular audiences.
Everything that is relevant to forming the release may be analysed – these analyses may include (but are not limited to) : the M/V’s of songs within the release, the lyrics of particular tracks, interviews from the artist themselves and even, if relevant, the album cover.
Below, is a brief list of projects that are currently being planned (not exclusively in order).
Upcoming projects will be either personally selected or will be chosen through polling – the first poll will be in this thread and will be based upon user recommendations that have not been automatically selected upon consideration. The poll will be opened once enough recommendations have been suggested.
Wider themes may include – Authenticity in relation to the postmodern musical environment, youth subcultures, combat against critics, identity.
Conceptual themes may include – Wolves (and their connotations, with links the artist’s musical identity), Korean Mythology
Musical themes may include – Hyper-pop and Disco (and it’s organs), Rock sub-genres (and the connotations such as fandom and identity), traditional Korean instrumentation (linked to concept) and EDM genres/sub-genres.
- BORDER (+ DIMENSION:DILEMA)(ENHYPEN)
Wider themes may include – further research is required.
Conceptual themes may include – Vampires (and their connotations, with links to artists’ concept), duality, escapism, temptation, and addiction.
Musical themes may include – Psychedelic influences, EDM Subgenres.
It is important to note that not all releases will be equally focused upon concept and music or wider themes if present. Thus, if a depth study is more focused on one of these features it is largely due to the nature of the release.
Further projects will be added after polling results and user recommendation. Currently, the maximum number of projects that can be under planning is five.
If you have any recommendations of particular releases you would want a depth study of, please link the resources down below and will add they will be added to the list of projects upon consideration or will be selected through the poll. T
Users are wholly welcome to suggest wider, conceptual, and musical themes to focus on regarding suggested releases or their own recommendation!
