What y'll think was the main reason for all 13 SEVENTEEN members to renew their contract.... knowing Pledis behaviors....

  • you really have no idea about seventeen or any of the members, like literally none of what you said is accurate.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

I've heard that Pledis has almost everything related to Seventeen locked up under copyright and they are just shitty enough to refuse to give good terms to them if they leave. If they were able to get a bigger chunk of profit or better terms then it was probably easier to just stay with Pledis.

I also definitely think that JYP has changed the game completely. Not just GOT7 leaving as a group and continuing on and being allowed to use their name, but even 2PM continuing to promote as a full group without all the members in the same company. It's going to be much harder for companies to pull the "oh it's just hiatus!" bs and then never actually work out a deal with the other member's companies to actually promote. Better from a company perspective to offer them a great deal to all 13 members than a good deal to 10 or 11 of them and potentially have to share profits with other companies.

Also also... I just think realistically there's no company for them to go to as a group and get decent terms. While they already have a built in fanbase, if they change company that's housing, staff, wardrobe expenses for 13 people right off the bat. I just can't think of any company that would be willing to put that much money into a group knowing there's a good possibility they'd have to go through a rebranding. Negotiating with Pledis for a better deal was probably the best option.

  • Part of it might be due to the members wanting to continue the Seventeen legacy. They have looked up to Suju as a long lasting group early on in their career and the boys really tried hard to make sure this team works. Having a group this large not losing a single member since debut era is unheard of in kpop and they know that. The members are likely on the same page on the group's legacy.

It's probably easier to try for one renewal period to see how things go since they are still doing really well. (I imagine the company dangling the 10 yr anniversary celebration in front of them. ) Pledis needs them to stay so I can imagine that the new contract might be more favorable to them and they likely don't want some of the members to shop around for another agency.
