Why do so many action movies these days give Heroines weak, pathetic villains ?

  • You said it. absolutely! they think we all are some sort of hivemind lol, they should know it's a lose lose game they are playing, and they are kinda ruining the industry with all this blaming, because those hollyweirds are ignoring every side of the audience right? counting the constructive criticism you pointed out I totally agree! i think if one would write something it would need to have a friendly promo without being obnoxious towards real people but nowadays everything is so full of empty blaming and buzzwords... i feel like at this moment we are living in a hollywood culture of a narcissist lack of talent, everyone wanna a hit but they dont wanna work on it so they try to guilty trip the audience + it doesn't work + then they blame men (or other big part of the audience) therefore nothing improves and this is a circle by now... i hope it ends soon lmao I miss the good feeling of going to a cinema full of people excited for movies!

moral of story: sticking for horror genre for now at least (this phase can't last forever lol)

(horrors always has been between my most favorites anyways)

  • Alien Covenant is a good catch too (I didn't think of this one SandyBee3 ). It's clear in this one and after Prometheus that the android David is the villain AND main character of Ridley Scott's reboot.

The only other example I can think of is Silence of the Lambs. Clarice Starling doesn't lose per se as she catches indeed the serial killer she was going after. But she caused Hannibal Lecter to escape in the process.

Yes… David will be the main character and villain. I think the build up to this realization was great, cause we could see what he is capable of and how he can outsmart the people around him and he isn’t even a “ real” human. You could see and feel the threat. So however Danials will gonna defeat him, we know it won’t be easy. Unless they suddenly make them do thinks out of character or turn her into a Mary Sue able to do things we never saw her being capable of doing before until it was convenient for her to suddenly have that ability in a specific moment.

We won’t get something like Silence of the Lambs anymore… at least not with a female lead.

Exactly… I feel they gave a bunch of narcissists to much freedom in Hollywood. Maybe if they would stop listening to the Twitter crowd and actually listen to their consumers, things would look a little better.

Yeah Horror (Thrillers) still remain the superior genre for me.

  • Only a few movies, female led or otherwise, have a bad guy winning at the end. First you need a bad guy; dramas, comedies, SF movies don't necessarily have a bad guy. So you're mostly left with action movies, horror movies which use to have clear antagonists. In horror movies more specifically, more often female led and where the monster creature/psycho murderer/bogeyman is often the real main character of the story, especially when it's a film franchise: Freddy Krueger in Nightman on Elm Street, Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th... So it's less rare to find the villain winning in those films (even when doesn't really make sense and is just there for shock value).

    true true...

yes, the twitter crowd is insane and not a reflection of the real world AT ALL

companies are more than dumb for not noticing this yet
