Red Velvet should become a rotational group now with sub units

  • I don't think an EXO/NCT style of sub-unit format will happen for Red Velvet this late in the game; if it would happen, it would've happened early in their debut years, when also Yeri was added.

But I'm all for some Super-M type of group for SM's female artists, where members of SNSD, RV, Aespa, Boa, and maybe some trainees or ex-members (who knows, Seohyun or Tiffany) are added in some rotational 'SM female' unit.

Heck, why not mix up male and female artists in occasional collabs or rotational units, that's be great too!

yeah SM made a mixed gender group Younique previously. i don't think Aespa members will join in female SuperM group; their concept is too different and they are still rookies. And most of SNSD members are busy outside of music projects. Mixed gender group may happen with NCT and RV members.

We already did have some glimmer of that, like here:

But yeah, we'd need some more, and longer.

Even 2nd gen era had better collabs like that, like you mentioned younique, and also collab performances like these

A Super-M type of group of mixed SM bg+gg artists wouldn't be a big step up from that.

I still don't get why SM (and other companies for that matter too) aren't making use of their big roster of artists and mix them up in collabs more.

SM wants to emulate MCU with their SM Cultural Universe (SMCU), then they should pay better attention to MCU's mixing of their superhero roster as well: the MCU is filled to bursting with all kinda crossovers, from Captain America's Winter Soldier and Civil War, to epic ensemble films like Infinity War and Endgame.

If SM were emulating the Marvel Universe in those things, the crossovers and ensemble films, with mixing up their groups, that's when they're really showing vision and taking steps towards it imo.
