What a Group needs to stand out?

idk, good songs, some new sounds, interesting instrumentals... i find a lot of kpop group's music sounds basically the same

what stands out to me is the person behind the person behind the music and the people that make the groups. What kind of awesome skills do they have. Creative and quick wit, etc. Unique sound is also a pretty good qualifier

but mostly the people behind the whole operation, what are they like? What are their personality? Do they think quick on their feet? How relatable are they, etc.

Good marketing. Consistent quality music (not only title track). Chemistry between members, them being able to form a group with IT factor. Luck (probably most important considering how saturated kpop is now).

Great vocals but especially great performance on stage without lip sync. Kpop fans nowadays always talk about "real" performance, with no lip syn or heavy backtracks and good on stage presence with consistent vocals.
