since I'm from Germany I got a pretty good knowledge of it, but never had it in school
lol go to wikipedia!
Basically, Germany invaded Poland because they got screwed after WWI and deemed this territory as legit theirs. But Poland was in an alliance with the UK and France therefore these countries automatically declared war on Germany. But they didn't invade Germany, they stayed behind their lines, which led France to get screwed by Germany's modernized army.
Italy under Mussolini sided with Germany but got rekt so they switched sides.
Also, the Soviet Union got involved. Before the war they were ok with Germany (Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact) but Germany attacked them eventually so they entered the war. Germany got screwed by the Russian winter (just like Napoleon did) and ended up caught in a vice between the Soviets and the Americans who got involved after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor.
Germany surrendered in 1944, and WWII ended for good in 1945 when Japan surrendered after getting nuclear bombed twice.
since I'm from Germany I got a pretty good knowledge of it, but never had it in school.
Btw Germany surrendered in 1945 on the May 8th

My bad, I got it wrong because the liberation of Paris happened in 1944 so I figured Germany's surrender was not long after. Of course May the 8th is a holiday so I should've known better but I legit thought it was the day of the last surrender ie. Japan's! When they actually surrendered on August 15th. Silly me.

Had to read it at wiki, since I wasn't sure of the exact date

Switzerland helped judes over their small river called wiese and hid them in their houses.
At the same time they had a lot of people that loved hitler and hated hitler
People who disliked him, put flags outside that showed a swastika that turned the wrong way, switzerland had tons of jude gold laying around in their banks until their bank secret was lifted in the 2000's.
Many terror attacks were planned to kill hitler.
I alwazs like the french revolution more in history class tho

Interesting. I find French History fascinating too especially Napolean era

Outside of the broader strokes, I seem to have a disturbing amount of knowledge about the grislier and less talked about parts of the era (Japan's Unit 731, Germany's Aktion T4, the UK's attack on Mers-el-Kebir).

it's hard for me to know what's unknown, since I think there is so much information about it.
After looking at the wiki entries about it, the german one is much bigger, so maybe it's easier for me to get more info.
What I didn't know, after skimming through it was that China had the 2nd most casualties with 13.5 million (3.5m soldiers) after Russia with 27 million (13m soldiers)

They were also in the midst of their civil war when Japan invaded. So yeah, the place was quite a mess at the times.
