Why do groups today more or less sell 1 million albums?

Changed the title of the thread from “Why do groups today sell 1 million?” to “Why do groups today more or less sell 1 million albums?”.
  • 1 million has become norm as of now.

Back then, selling 1M was hard only few groups did that.

Cracking 2M+ needs some seriously dedicated fandom and wider reach beyond KPOP fans (local exposure).

Wouldn't call It the norm, lately only BP and NCT have cracked it apart from the established BTS, EXO and SVT. The norm rn might be 500k since the top 4th gen groups are around there. Although yes surely some of them are getting to 1M eventually.

  • OP you can't just look at album sales. Back in the day during 1st gen era only way to listen your favorite artist was to buy their album that is why album sales where so high in the late 90s.

Nowadays nobody really buys albums to listen to the music they are just collectibles.

I mean just look at the US going from over 900 million albums shipments to just 30 million.
