like I know people do it, it happened to me,but what response do they expect to hear? either I am and in that case I wouldn't want to talk about it with just anyone or I am not and they are labeling me with an illness I don't suffer from

I think it is because people tend to exaggerate things and jump to conclusions. We all kind of have a self defense mechanic that makes us imagine the worst case scenario and react on something based off it.

Simply stereotypes, I guess.
