i would consider nct dream 3rd gen idols because they debuted in 2016 and 4th gen didn't technically start before 2018
might just be me, but i consider the start of 4th gen to be the debut of stray kids, gidle and ateez (also the boyz though they didn't debut in 2018 but in dec 2017)
people only started to call it 4th gen when txt and itzy debuted

i know, but at least in my case i feel that classic 3rd gen groups feel different from newer groups like stray kids, the boyz, ateez, gidle, txt, itzy ++
i feel like more people started calling it 4th gen after txt and itzy debuted because they were debuted under big/well-known companies. when the well-known companies debuted new groups fans would go to the conclusion of that it is now a new era. but i personally feel like the transitioning year was 2018
