  • I guess conservative as holding traditional values, every single one of them are. In practical terms, all these countries aren't that far off from each other. We are talking about difference in between 99.997 x 99.995.

I imagine Laos (36%), Vietnam (37%), and Cambodia (24%) being less urban are very conservative. Usually city folks are less conservative and more open minded in comparison (still fairly conservative compared to Western city dwellers). India is also fairly rural based on their urbanization rate (around 35%, but rapidly urbanizing), so by this metric, they are up there too. This may be an iffy way to judge how conservative country is, but usually countryside people are very clingy to their traditional way of life.

SK may be getting lot of votes because of their very strong and vocal Confucian values and some of the laws like anti-porn stuff and censorship. However, in practical terms, it's not that different from other fellow nations in the Sinosphere. Every single country clings to their tradition first and foremost and are very vocal about their values. Japan may get a pass more often than they should, but law wise isn't that much different with their attitudes towards stuff like tattooing, drugs, sexism, LGBTQ, and so on.

Now if we are talking about conservative in terms of politics, at this moment, maybe SK should have received the least votes with Taiwan. Taiwan in terms of politics seem to have more progressive attitudes in a lot of societal issues compared to the average. SK and Japan are also fairly progressive in this metric compared to the rest.

If religion is the main focus on how conservative a country is, India would top it for sure judging from the news. I can't tell how religion weights in on communist countries. Japan, Taiwan, and SK are pretty "chill" religion wise and have a decent amount of non-believers or non-affiliated. At least it seems kept as a personal matter.

  • All are on the conservative side ofc. Japan actually beats south Korea, idk why Korea got many votes. India is perhaps the most conservative ever, alongside the Arab world.
