and Enhypen also had hype
also let me remind you that the only reason why they didn't include 2019, was because Itzy charted longer, but even by including 2019, aespa is the 2nd longest charting, even with the competition of 2019 rookies group
since the only other big rookie who debuted in 2019 was TXT and crown charted for 3 weeks only on gaon digital
two big agencies debuted their group so yes there was competition
???? do you really think a boy group has anything over them? like everyone knows they chart horribly and the ggs last year didn’t make much noise either. aespa is the biggest debut we’ve seen last year, they would’ve slayed regardless. this is what i meant.

well dont know about enhypen but YG bgs always debuted with actual chart hits so yes, it is surprising...

times have changed in the five years it took for them to debut a new boy group so i wasn’t really surprised
well for starters, yg was being blasted on the media for his scandals. treasures debut was also pushed back a lot because of this and the little hype they’d built from treasure box was lost to the wind.
also, treasure is the first big group from yg. all of their previous groups have been four or five members (with the exception of ikon). so basically, treasure didn’t fit yg’s image that the fans had grown up to see. we all know how yg groups have that swag that makes everyone go crazy. their debut song was boring and i can see why it didn’t create much noise among the yg stans too

its not that the amount of scandals YG had before were much less though... anyways even during those scandals many delivered chart hits from YG, new artists being affected by that seems more like an excuse.. As for the pushing back of debut, that actaully helped them gain much of a int fandom that they have now.. and yeah your point about them being a big group is right though, not much YG, the only time they did it before was with ikon with an avg group size of 7.
I did like Boy though, and tbh their other releases were different and quiet YG styles too, especially the latest one... I dont think songs are the problem.. if hylt can be a chart hit then so can boy or ily... they just failed to hit big initially in sk, and tbh thats very much not expected from a yg bg.. especially yedam was very much anticipated by many too but it all disappeared.
