All except AC/DC also made Spotify's top 6 groups list 2020 (#1 BTS, #3 Queen, #6 The Beatles)

  • Queen ? ACDC ? Beatles ?

Why they're still in the top, they got no release lmao.

It shows how the music industry is in a pathetic period in terms of production, sales are exploding and streaming is spreading all over the world but we lack real musicians and talent. They're just commercial and it's starting to show.

2021 top selling : Mozart, Beethoven coming :pepe-hehe:

  • Because when you make quality music, then your fans will listen to it for decades and their children will listen to it and so on.

Also because groups are dead globally, except BTS. BTS is the only group who debuted after 1974 on IFPI global artists top 20.

  • BTS, Beatles and Queen make it to my top 5 all time fave groups, so people of the world have taste :pepe-toast:

  • It's really shocking.

The last true release of The Beatles was in 1970 and of Queen in 1995. AC/DC had a release in 2020, so it explains why. But it's still shocking that they are active since 1973 and still manage to sell this much.

Rock music has another level of longevity.

    Yes I agree.

I especially wanted to underline the fact that now the music industry is no longer looking for talent, but for short-term profit with very generic and industrial music. The media and distribution are also parasymed by this system, the real artists who really offer something are more and more difficult to find for the consumer if they do not manage to emerge on their own.

  • Out of topic: Harry styles tanked like he should :pepe-toast:

Congrats to all the groups. 1D fads obviously so no where to be found. Just goes to show how big and great longevity some bands have.

One Direction is still the 4th most streamed group on Spotify in 2020 after BTS, Maroon 5 and Queen. In the context of groups theyre still doing well. Its just that no group except BTS is on the level of current top stars.

Queen also got a boost cause of Bohemian Rhapsody, as for The Beatles, well they are timeless legends.

@ bold, certainly that too. Rock classics age well.

  • Also helps that modern rock scene is pretty dead and has zero longevity. So people check out older rock music way more and the bands also have timeless classics.

I think the real problem of rock scene, it is that it is not the most commercial and has difficulty to emerge, it is also very little put forward.

Yeah that's what we call "masterpiece", and now you got people on akpop saying "aged like fine wine" and "masterpiece" for song that is 3 months old. :angryr:

I agree. But given that they r younger than maroon5 and queen i would have expected them to pull in more streams. Again they do have a smaller discography. groups in general r extinct spieces.

Theres been underrated artists and artificial disposable pop stars every era. Its just that firstly, we dont even know many of the lesser known artists OR the disposable pop stars from 30-40 years ago, while we know more artists from recent eras. And secondly, popularity of genres has shifted, theres lots of innovative things being done in other genres, but mainstream rock has been dead for a while (I think Arcade Fire may have been the last near-mainstream good rock band?). With the decline of bands, of course the overall groups category has declined a lot.

1D discography is very teen-oriented (from the songs Ive heard, its all very shallow), so their fanbase has aged out of it. More substantial music holds up better.
