Yes. Y'all just confuse the genre of a song for "identity."
Yes. Y'all just confuse the genre of a song for "identity."
I was hoping it'd take a few more posts before we reached this obvious truth. Dam you.
They have an identity, but they don't have a signature sound. Many of the popular groups have a distinct sound that's part of their identity. For example, Itzy, NewJeans, IVE, Nmixx, Aespa, and Idle all have a sound that people can easily identity. Rarely will you hear people say oh that sounds like a LSF song becuase they don't have clear signature sound. I think that' what people are talking about when they say they lack identity.
I think with LSF their identity is experimenting with different genres and making songs with a bold message. However, that is not something that people will easily point out as a group's identity. They're also known as strong performers, and not many groups can perform their advanced choreography while singing. However, that could be seen more as a skill rather than an identity. Also, they shine in variety and they're known as a group with a lot of personality when looking at individual idols.
TDLR: they have an identity, but not having a recognizable sound hurts their branding when strictly talking about music. However, they're identity relies more outside of their sound and more into performance and personalities.

I whole heartedly agree. I was actually about to reply similarly to BIGnorBANG, though not worded quite as eloquently lol. Their musical identity is shaky, but they do definitely have a group identity, at least by what I consider to be group identity.
Varenka was right, you just consistently have based takes ![]()

If chopping and changing is somehow "fearless" then I suppose it is... (despite not doing so with Mr. BDSM).
Their sound has been lacking since Easy, veering from that, to Crazy, to Hot, and *ugh* Spaghetti.
If you think I'm some *gritted teeth* hater... then ppl are sorely mistaken. I like them, but I just don't think that SouMus is pushing them in the right direction to optimise them to the best of their potential 🙂↕️🙂↕️
I think they have more a group image than a music identity.

Yeah, well kpop fans are all for stating the obvious until it doesn't fit their narrative. And I'd bring up a much MORE obvious point that having an identity goes beyond being able to hear a song and link it to a group but nooo.
The fact that the literal definition of "musical identity" is how individuals (the idols, in this case), define/understand themselves or connect with others through their musical output but
from my perspective, they don’t really have a consistent concept, a recognizable musical identity, or a clearly defined group image, so it just doesn’t feel like they’ve established a strong overall identity as a group. of course I'm not their hard core fan so ıdk
And may I ask how/where you draw the line between what is a "clearly defined group image" and what is not

musically a part of their identity can be found on their albums. They usually have interesting or wacky intros. Unsure how many people check those out or look up translations, but there's genuinely some funny stuff in them. I guess if a group had similar intros, then I would say that reminds me of LSF. The major issue with that is most people don't listen to albums and just listen to title tracks or b-sides that gain popularity. So, only people that are major fans of LSF will say that's part of their identity.
I think that's why branding is important because having the signature sound makes it easier for people to recognize a group. It's why you might hear catchphrases or signature lyrics in songs like tripleS will have "la la la" in some of their songs and people recgonize that's a tripleS song.

I don't think you're a hater, you literally listen to them more than most of their fans according to YT music lol.
I was just genuinely wondering what people think, since "group identity" is somewhat nebulous and not clearly defined. I think if we defer to Google, and go by that definition (which is generally how I viewed it, google "group identity kpop"), then yea they have an identity for the most part, hell they are even used an example. Music is shaky though, Id agree on that.

For me, the line is about consistency and recognizability. If a group has a stable concept, a cohesive aesthetic, and a musical or visual style that people can immediately associate with them, that’s a clearly defined group image. If those elements change too much or don’t form a recognizable pattern, then the image feels unclear.

And someone else states what I've been feeling about them all this time!! 👏

I disagree. Not in where you draw the line but how you think it applies the LSF.
Anyway. In the end, its about how you view it so.

I will say that despite their concepts and sound, their intros are the best in K-pop 👌 I can never fault them 🙂↔️
Yeah, like I said, this is just my personal perception. I think what really matters is how the majority of the fearnots feel and what they think ![]()

I'm not being dismissive.
I'm stating that, at the end of the day, if that's how you view then that's how you view it. Period.
I've had this conversation before and I'm not going through it again because people think will they what they want to based on their own standards/definitions.

I know, and I respect that.
And FEARNOTs aren't all that matter because casual listeners may also look at such things when deciding to stan so I definitely see where you're coming from.
My bad if I sounded rude.
