JYP is so bad at picking songs

  • ?? 6

    1. JYP suck at picking song (6) 100%
    2. JYP always pick good song (0) 0%

Cuz why the rejected songs for Itzy sounds so much better than any of their title track of the last 2 years

  • I only thought the last one was any good. But the chosen track was bad as well.

I don't think it's a JYPE thing, as most of their groups have excellent music. Itzy is the sad exception, and even then, only after Jane Kim left their team (after Wannabe). Before that their discography was looking pretty nice.

Now even when they get really good songs (like 258), it's a b-side to an inferior title...

  • Untouchable, Mr vampire and Imaginary friends are some of their recent tracks I think are amazing :!:

I agree, all good songs, I think Mr. Vampire and Imaginary Friend were technically promoted b-sides? (well, Mr. Vampire was a pre-release)

I think either way, if you have Imaginary Friend, you shouldn't be leading the charge with Gold. That puts a bad taste in people's mouths at a time when they had a lot of good will...

The past two releases were mostly promoted with Gold and Girls Will Be Girls. I think those are not BAD songs, but they're... they're okay at best. I think JYPE could have returned them to sender for further development. This is why I think the problem lies with their A&R team and creative direction.

I remember hearing that Nmixx's song Boom went through literally dozens of iterations before it finally got approved. Itzy's team need to be bringing that kind of energy, instead of doing what I think they're doing, and just flipping through demos, approving what they think are the most suitable ones, and then recording them as-is.

Edit: Also, I think they just have difficulty evolving. They're trying to fit into an "Itzy" sound.. But I think the fans have indicated that they want more songs like Imaginary Friend. I think part of it is that they've churned through A&R so much that whoever comes in is like, "Well, I best not rock the boat and stick to the established formula: Loud, dance-based track it is." Which just sounds kind of tired at this point?

  • I didn’t vote  I’m somewhere in between! I really like Mitm and most of Itzy TT are good! I think the bad ones get so much hate people group all Itzy’s music as bad which is wrong!

Untouchable, Mr vampire and Imaginary friends are some of their recent tracks I think are amazing :!:

Personally MITM, crazy in love and icy are my favorite song from them

And i personally think that itzy last title track that i really like was cheshire

So much this . I don’t think they’re bad at selecting songs but maybe not the best at selecting title tracks . Itzy has many quality b-side tracks that easily could’ve been the title track. For example, how do you select gold over Imaginary Friend. Also, Mr vampire is one of the beat track of the year but they went with untouchable . I think the biggest mistake they made was going with Cake instead of Killshot .

I think this is the importance with selecting title track because most will view a group based on title track. Itzy music hasn’t been that bad but title tracks have been questionable.

  • 3 of those songs had kind of aespa vibes

also none of them are in style of ITZY's original first 3 main titles which showcased group's color the best

I don't see the aespa vibe personally

And i personally disagree i think the songs take inspiration in the teen crush concept of Itzy but makes it more grown up

I mean it's been 6 years, the girls have evolve they'll not do songs like dalla dalla and icy their entire life and it's probably not what they want either

They need to find something that take inspiration in their teen crush sound but that is able to evolve and make it sound a bit more grown up and i think these songs are doing a good job

Cuz it feels that since sneakers, cake and golden they are in contrary going on the opposite side of a sound showing growth

    Oh wait i forgot untouchable

Well i guess the last tt i like from itzy was untouchable but it's a bit too forgettable

  • These songs sound like something ITZY would release as b-sides, especially 'Click Bait' or 'Speakers'. But I don't see any of them as title tracks.

    Yeah and that's my point

JYP is so bad at picking itzy song that the good song that could actually make people wants to heard more about what they can do always end up being bsides

And the songs that makes people run away from itzy are the ones being pick as title track

If JYP would have pick one of these songs over cake or golden trust me they would have receive much more love

  • Untouchable and Imaginary Friend were two of the best GG songs last year, and Know About Me this year.

Know about me is one of the few gg songs that ended up in my 2025 playlist and it says a lot cuz i think i have maybe only 10 kpop songs in this playlist

But i was mostly talking about title track

Twice title tracks are a bit inconsistent " what for" is good but "one spark" was boring and forgettable

NMIXX had some bad ones lately but "know about me" is giving me hopes about the musical direction they are heading now

But itzy is the only one who keep getting bad ones, sneakers, cake and golden were bad

Untouchable was good but a bit too generic so it left no real impact and after 3-4 months it was completely forget

  • You had Loco, and japanese release Voltage which very well were more punchy, vibrant, like "young" ITZY, but already more matured. The problem as usual was that Koreans didn't like them. And that's a thing there, it's like with Sneakers, for me there was multiple songs of ITZY which were better, yet Sneakers did well on Melon and got popular in Korea who knows why lol

Well loco didn't have a massive success

But it didn't flop it peaked at #34 on melon daily chart so it was great

And Unpopular opinion but Loco is to me by far their best Title track ever

But i think if JYP start to release songs like the one in the tweet

It would bring a new interest in itzy cuz like i said they kinda give itzy earlier sound inspiration

One of the song even remind me twenty but in a more mature way

And i think seeing this will bring back some of the interest from the kpop community that they lost over the time

And ADD to this a great MV

Cuz Girls will be girls had budget in the MV but that's it

I think if they go with a teen crush more mature sound and add to this a MV with the budget and the aesthetic of the kind of MV NMIXX had for "Know about me"

More ppl would give some attention to them

  • Disagree completely that they need to evoke their older sound at all. I think their entire problem is that they're trying to do that. It's a mistake to be sounding teen-anything at this point.

Imaginary Friend was really well-received. They then dropped a trailer for the next album that had a score that was filled with bedroom dream-pop and shoegaze sounds. And then the album didn't have anything that sounded remotely like it.

But I think if it had, it would have marked a new beginning for Itzy, one that fans are already primed for, and one which is significantly different from every other k-pop group.

  • The way I see it the main problem is how JYPE struggle to just be "in" again and have groups recover after having poorly-received songs. Songs like Sneakers, Gold, O.O etc. hurt groups' reputation, and JYPE suck at having new roll-outs with consistent concepts and sounds that make people hyped again for when they do release good songs. Them not having a marketing team, is the least surprising thing ever lol..

  • most time with itzy songs, for me is not the song itself. It's the way they are singing it. Like i think vampire is a bop, but i hate that ryujin sounds like she is crying in it. Or sometime their high notes are annoying

yeah, this one is great example

This cover goes much deeper and adds more layers—check the 41–50 second mark. Compared to that, Yeji and Chaeryeong delivered those lines very plainly.
