is it time for ILLIT to re-invent themelves ?

  • I've been obsessed with ILLIT music since their debut ( i still listen to Magnetic and Cherish religiously)

I loved their song, i love the tik-tok vibe, the cuteness, innocent concept

but their latest comeback have been underwhelming

"do the dance" feels "heavy", it doesn't have the light and cute energy that their previous song have

actually it does but i don't know how to explain, it feels more like they were in studio and they just ask to a producer to reproduce the same type of chorus without putting much effort in actually trying to make it interesting

more like yes it worked in the past so we are going to pursue this until it work again

and it made me think, is it maybe time for ILLIT to step away from the tik tok song and maybe try to explore more ?

  • Is that not what this is?

  • I have to disagree with you because I felt they reinvented themselves with this comeback. I felt they found their identity, and they're doing something that no other group is doing.

  • the problem with any reinventions is that it is likely to cause uncertainty and that's usually not a good thing

if any group (not just Illit) continues it's current path then (assuming ceteris paribus) they are likely to get so much sales, so much charting etc etc - those numbers can be factored into investment decisions from styling to MV costs etc etc

if a group decides to change things there is no guarantee that such change would result in better numbers so therefore you put the existing fanbase at risk since that's one of the reasons they joined in the first place right?

I'm also not saying it can't work but there is a huge risk because all of these decisions come from the company (unless the group is very established and profitable) the idols themselves will have very little input and thus concept changes become not so much of an artistic decision but rather a financial one

  • I think they're gearing up for one, as IIRC, they used footage from previous MVs and concepts in Jellyous MV, which, to me, signals they're going to go in a different direction, or scrap the whole concept.

Aside from that, Do the Dance is probably their best TT. However, even Glitts were confused by it, and how it fit thematically with the group's overall concept.

TBH, I think Illit has been kinda... messy, from even before it debuted. The RubyMoon concept would've been better, and with striking members, too. Iroha and Yunah would've been perfect for a mature sister group to Enhypen.

Then, you have Serian Heu... Ugh! Less said about her, the better.
