Is it safe to say that IDLE is no longer part of the Top 4 girl groups of 4th Gen?

  • I'd sacrifice Idle to call NJ nugu

  • they never were solid top4? it's always been newjeans, aespa, ive and lsrfm. they've always been firmly 5th with itzy lagging behind, only occasionally jumping to 4th when the whole lsrfm coachella fiasco happened and they were doing well with their random b-side on melon. apart from that, they've never been a solid top gg and especially not now with this underperformance on all fronts.

    Actually

It was always NJ, Aespa, ive and Gidle as the top 4 undisputable GG

Gidle had for years better digital performance than Lsrf

    Queencard did better than unforgiven

    Tomboy did better than antifragile

And last year Fate also did better than easy

And in term of sales gidle is one of the best seller of 4th gen gg

While Lesserafim is the weakest of the top 5 in term of sales with "Crazy" and "Hot" not being able to even surpass 1M sales

The only real advantage lesserafim have on gidle is their international charting that have always been strong compare to gidle

But in term of korean charting and sales Gidle is far above LSRF

Imagine saying gidle havent been solid top 4 when they always peaked in the top1-2 for the past 3-4 years

  • It's true that LSRFM and Idle have always battled for that 4th spot in terms of sales and charting, but one of the most important metrics is overall popularity and clout (aka who people actually talk about). lsrfm generates much more noise with their releases than idle ever does, they are much more discussed (for both good and bad reasons, mostly bad lately) in all social platforms which imo is kinda the make or break. granted this can give big4 groups an unfair advantage to start with but it's always been like that in kpop. so kudos for ive for being an outlier.

lsrfm had several oopsies in korean charting with crazy and that other song that flopped, but just look at the amount of threads just here on akp about lsrfm's latest comebacks vs i-dle's, and how much traffic a lsrfm flop/controversy makes compared to idle. imo that kinda tells u who's more popular.

The difference is that you're building your entire reasonment on an international forum

And like i said in my previous comment Lsrf have always been more popular internationally than Gidle

International for Gidle is the same than Korea for Lesserafim

None of them are very strong here and their performance depend on the song they release

So obviously considering that lesserafim is more popular internationally and they come from HYBE, a big 4, we'll talk more about them than gidle

But i get what you say

I just don't think that "people talking" is a great measure cuz it's too subjective

  • I only used akp as an example, it's the same on reddit and twt which are much bigger platforms.

I guess the conclusion will depend on whether the conversation is about global (including korea) or mainly focused on korea popularity using global success as some sort of tiebreaker. in korea idle has a bit more edge since they have more #1s on melon chart than lsrfm. but globally I don't think there's much of a battle there.

agree, it's hard to measure - hence why I'm basing it on my impressions as someone who doesn't stan any of the groups and is only casual listener of both. it really does seem like lsrfm generates more discussion than idle. I mostly only hear about idle when it's about soyeon, her lyrics and soojin banter
