if yes were there any results which surprised you?

  • No but my mom told me the story that her mom told her that her grandmother mentioned that my great grandmother was the product of an African slave and European white slave owner who forced himself on her African mother. They also mentioned that they showed disdain for any trace of their White ancestory. For instance they were born with light brown hair and dyed it black.

Me bringing a white boyfriend to the family :

  • My dad got it done and the most surprising thing was it came back 91% Scottish. It’s not surprising Scotland was in there, my dad was born in Scotland and both sides of my family trace their roots to there (although I consider myself English). What was surprising is that it was do dominated by Scotland because we all have black/dark brown hair and a few family members have slightly darker skin than most white people (especially compared to the pasty-white of most Scottish people) - we expected there to be a slice of Roman or Iberian DNA there to explain the dark hair, but nope we’re just Scottish lol.

  • No but I guess I am mostly German with maybe some east Europe in it

Why I guess of Est Europe: Before WW2 parts of Poland had been part of Germany and during the war people either fled the region or stayed. Those who stayed are now Polish citizen and their children, grandchildren,... too. And my grandmother was from this region. She was from Schlesien, as we call it in German, where she was born and lived till she was around 5 years old or something. When she and her family fled, my grandma never said if she had family around the region cause she never had been back there in her entire life, but it's most likly that I have ancestry who was German and lived there and their children, grandchildren,... and so on are all polish now.

I could totally see that a DNA-test would say I might be 5-10% East European besides being German
