I was looking through the YouTube comments and they were all negative. I don't get it
Or is it sarcasm or something and I just don't get it because my English isn't good???
The music video and song were insanely fun though

    original post: here

    1. Because the lyrics are oba

    > Oh? I didn't read the lyrics. Why??
    >> They are freaking bad

    2. Foreigners say that the lyrics are too childish and weird so they hate it

    3. That's right, I also like the song so much...

    4. I just think that it's not the kind of song that foreigners would like in the first place

    5. I don't know English so maybe that's why? I like the song so much... so the lyrics are weird?

    6. I'm relieved that I don't know Englishㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I like the song

    7. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Ah so the lyrics are bad?ㅜㅜㅋㅋㅋㅋ I bet that the members made fun of it

    8. They said that the lyrics are similar to Mafia

    9. What a relief that I don't know English. I've been enjoying the songㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

    10. I also just watched their M Countdown performance and really liked it. Although I don't know the lyricsㅋㅋㅋ

  • 6. I'm relieved that I don't know Englishㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I like the song

Foreign kpop fans relate to this ^^

every songs is better when you cannot understand cringy lyrics. Even if you read translations and know what the song is about it doesn't bother you because you don't hear actual words. It's, like, who cares. But hearing "jealous of my mansion", that hits different :skull:

  • 2. Foreigners say that the lyrics are too childish and weird so they hate it

me listening to Click Clack peacefully while native speakers complain about BM's songs.

  • Lyrics will drag down or elevate a song. Fir native English speakers, the lyrics, while mocking certain stereotypes, are not very good. It hurts the song because while it is satire it is not well made satire. If it was in Korean, it would help with international audience who will nostly focus on how the sounds of the lyrics accompany the instrumentals and beats of the song.

  • Who remembers the reaction Aespa first had? I remember people HATING Next Level but it was a massive hit in Korea. Korea likes hyperpop and electronic music more than international kpop fans it seems.

My theory is that the artists who become more popular internationally have done so with easier listening songs so that's the expectation.

In fact if you go back in kpop history groups always released eccentric music.
