I think JYP’s next gg should be the successor to TWICE

  • Now before yall try and say “Well Niziu” I’m talking in terms of korean girl groups. :sketchyk:

    Anywayyyy…

JYP as a company are in an interesting position when it comes to their girl groups. Although they have ITZY and Nmixx, neither group has overcome TWICE or even come close to their impact and success.

All the other big companies have rolled out their new girl groups for the 5th generation (SM, Hybe, YG, Starship, etc) yet JYP hasn’t. And it could be bcs Nmixx is entering their 3rd year as a group but by the time Itzy were in their 3rd year, Nmixx had debuted.

Now that TWICE are entering their 10th year as a group, I think it’s high time that JYP debut their next large girl group and let them take the reins over from Twice. Twice has cemented themselves as kpop legends and yet they’re still the gg bringing in the most income for JYP. The Twice members are growing older and surely want to enter into other things like acting, modeling, and solos (which they’re doing already). Which won’t leave much room for actual comebacks.

So now, imo, with Itzy starting to debut as soloist and Nmixx growing older is the perfect time for JYP to debut another group with the “girls next door” feel that TWICE brought to kpop.

  • You aren't given the reins, you take them. No one has been able to take the reins, which means they didn't deserve them. Given that Twice have already proven their ability to juggle all sorts of solo career ventures and still have regular comebacks as a group, this idea that they should be replaced "just because" is frankly preposterous. This isn't SM we're talking about here.

Twice being JYP’s main money maker when it comes to their ggs isn’t good either. Especially considering they’ve debuted two and neither one could bring in the profits Twice has.

  • Couldn't agree more. TBH, Itzy hasn't had a cohesive concept since Guess Who? or Checkmate, so going for a bigger group might be a good thing, with a similar age bracket as to when Twice started out for the members, too.

And honestly a larger group like early Twice has been missing from 4th gen AND 5th gen (thus far).

That girl next door feel has been missing and jyp has a golden opportunity to bring it back.

You mean JYP's newer groups failing to surpass Twice isn't good. There's nothing inherently bad about Twice continuing to do their thing. They are one of the most successful groups in Kpop. If they were struggling mightily then you might have a point, but that isn't the case.

I think you’re misunderstanding my point.

Yes there’s nothing wrong with Twice still being successful this long into their career, I’m not disputing that.

But what I AM saying is that on JYP’s part, it’s a risk that none of their newer groups are getting as big or at least coming close to the heights of Twice. It’s not good that they’ll still be depending on Twice to comeback every year instead of one of their newer groups bringing in the profits.

It isn't optimal to rely so heavily on an older group, but there's not much they can do about it at this point. Continuing to debut new groups until one clicks will just further cannibalize the previous, less successful ones, and JYP can't afford to go all in on a new group to the point that it negatively affects Twice themselves, like so many other companies would, because there's no guarantee that they won't just be another Nmixx. Imagine if they had literally taken the spotlight away from Twice for the sake of Nmixx, or even Itzy. That would have been disastrous.

Itzy, NMIXX and Stray Kids aren't the public darlings that Twice are, but they bring in profits through physical sales just fine. If JYP had the ability to just make their next group as successful as Twice, he would have done that with all of them. He didn't, because he can't. Getting rid of Twice would not help either.

Also Super Junior has a ton of members that have solo careers they are up there as one of the groups with the most schedules, they come back pretty much every year. This isn't a bad thing or not doable at all.

  • Tbh I have a feeling JYP will skip 5th gen and start 6th gen gg! Like what YG did with BM and 5th gen :/

They have 4 active gg and now Niziu have started promoting in Korea I can’t see them adding another group :?:

I think their main goal is managing their current groups! Maybe 2027/28 will be the start of 6th gen :?:

There were financial reports of them debuting a girl group this year or next year.

I could see them trying again when Itzy's contracts end. I think there's a good chance they don't renew. Even Twice could be on their final contracts with JYPE at that point, but what that would look like is anyone's guess. I still expect them to be the Apink of their generation in terms of staying power, continuing well past their tenth year, but if anyone decides not to renew again in a few years it could potentially put JYPE into panic mode. They likely already have some eggs lined up, it would just be premature of them to put them in the basket right now.

Yes this is true but big companies are notorious for delaying debut days for years even :/ I wouldn’t be surprised if they push it back until it’s 6th gen

Yes! different factors play apart :/ if Itzy and Twice don’t renew they will have to debut a new gg to replace their profit

I think both groups would still renew though but who knows :!:

  • the successor to twice will be whatever group that captures the GP's attention that twice did when they were at the height of their popularity in SK

it doesn't necessarily have to be (or should be) a JYP GG
