Yunjin or Jennie: Who is the better vocalist?

  • Who is the better vocalist? 39

    1. Yunjin (29) 74%
    2. Jennie (10) 26%

Since some of y'all wanna play with me, I'm asking the rest of AKP who they think is the better vocalist.

    Consider these 3 when deciding:

    • Control and technique
    • Pitch accuracy and intonation
    • Range and flexibility

  • I'm incredibly surprised at this information coming from you :pepe-shame:

Honestly, Im prepared for Yunjin to lose this poll cuz i know there are more blinks on here than fearnots and most of y'all are incapable of being unbiased.

That's bc liking vocals are literally personal taste. You can be the best vocalist according to critics, if I don't feel your music I won't care about your vocals.

Jennie is an amazing vocalist imo and her album just cemented this more. She sounds good.

And Yunjin in lsfrm isn't her at her best from what I saw.

And what exactly did you see?

    That one coachella clip?

Anyways, I'm not asking what vocals you like more.

I don't know if I should engage with this thread, if it's serious or maybe it's a bait for the fanwars :pepewhat:

But I think there's a few reasons why it's hard to compare them as vocalists.

Is Yunjin classicaly trained? She seems to be and afaik classical singing is so different from modern "pop" singing. She sounds great in the clips where she's doing classical singing and I also liked the clip from Lee Mujin's Service, but imo she's struggling a bit during this Weverse Con performance and I saw some clips online where she struggled while performing with her group.

Jennie on the other hand is a full blown kpop singer but also singing never was her main focus, because she's a rapper too. From what I remember from my days as a blink, her singing was usually powerful and she was stable while performing live but it is hard to compare her to someone trained in classical singing, who was probably trained a lot in the aspects that kpop idols don't often focus on that much. In Blackpink I feel like they focused a lot on sounding original and stylised their voices in a certain way while classical singers obviously learn the proper technique , musicality etc. (I am not one, but this is from what I know, as I used to study with such singer at the uni)

So we could argue that perhaps Yunjin is a better vocalist but Jennie is a better kpop singer.

  • Opera singer vs. Rapper

    "Who's the best vocalist?"

    Yunjin isn't an opera singer.

She IS a classically trained singer, though, who would be equipped to sing opera with a little more advanced training but I'm pretty the only opera she's sung is Carmen Habanera.

She could probably be considered more of a musical theater singer than an opera singer, though.

  • Opera singing and pop singing are different. Yunjin's using different skills for each. You gotta compare her pop singing to Jennie's pop singing. I think Yunjin was born with a larger vocal range and more power. But, I think Jennie uses what she was born with better than Yunjin. Jennie has better control, more stability, and better expression. She understands her strengths and leans into them. Yunjin has potential, but she hasn't surpassed Jennie.

On top of all this, Jennie has more star power - it's just something magnetic about her. She has that natural swag. I love Yunjin too, but I'm ngl her hyping up the Coachella crowd was a little cringe (tho iconic).
