How do you like Lisa's Alter Egos Characters Concept?

  • I aboslutely love Lisa's music. New Woman and Born Again are masterpieces! Moonlit Floor is so smooth and addicting. Rockstar and Chill are amazing opposites. Her music has been making itself very present on my playlist, I really enjoy her songs. However, I must point out the concept didn't sail to me, at all.

The alter egos concept is so silly. Those characters (Sunni, Speedi, Roxi, Vixi and Kiki) and their respective personality description are so juvenile. The album would've been better off without the charaters.

Lisa says the idea was to introduce to her fans new sides of her. But honestly, there's nothing new to her brought by her alter egos characters, we've seen all of those sides within her previous solo releases and her BLACKPINK releases.

Except for New Woman and Born Again, none of the songs released under her alter egos surprised me.

To sum it up, the alter ego concept with the characters feel forced and unauthentic to me. I wasn't expecting anything intimate or personal from her, I was fine and very well fed with her commercial releases until she put those characters out there... so awkward and 2015, meh.

  • I like it more for the comic book and futw vixi solo. I think she tried to put it in her first album as a play thing, but kpop fans are unfunny so :holding-back-tears: .

Like we have the 5 songs that represent the alter egos, what must have confused fans was thinking we would have more songs in the album to each alter ego, but we didn't. It was just that 5 songs.

The album itself is more dancing, vibing and I liked the songs, some few were whatever, but overall a good album to me. I didn't expect something personal bc Lisa has being hinting about what she wanted to portray ever since in BP so rather then thinking it's impossible for her to be "so personal" it's more like she wanted to just show her confidence first. It's just her first album and she'll evolve, improve, I won't judge as if she is some superficial girl, rather she is just having fun in the moment, nobody needs to tell us about their sad moments just to feel validated as artists.

Born Again and New Woman lyrics and message are amazing, Moonlight Floor sweet side is beautiful, FUTW is literally what Lisa is living ever since getting out of yge, suddenly the biggest villain. Let her embrace it!

Btw this whole "they don't open up" thing happens ever since BP debuted, they were never the ones to cry and talk about their hardships so openly, just after some years we got some reflection time from them and it's ok.. better be super confident in yourself and not wanting unknown people to know about your weak points then opening up and being crucified the same way bc yes, the moment Lisa writes or sing a super personal song you'll see the same ones who are hating on her now hating on her then. It'll never be a win win situation for her.

  • You are right about the fact it's confusing that there're only 5 songs for the alter egos when the album is called alter ego, I agree.

To me it might make people think it's two differente releases in one: the pop queen concept and then the alter egos

  • The songs of the album are really good and fun to vibe too

But aesthetic and concept wise I feel the same about this album

When she announce this concept of alter ego i thought that he was so cool if the execution was well made

But i feel like it was poorly made :

    • cringy description of the alter ego
    • the songs from the album aren't that different from each other to be able to clearly notice what kind of alter ego she was using in it
    • the album cover doesn't even represent this "alter ego" concept so cover feels so unaspiring and lazy for an album who's trying to represent her ( i would have actually went for a cover like the teaser rose did where she's sitting with multiple rose, it would have been a much better cover for an album call alter ego)

Also she made all this description about her "alter ego" but we never saw it come to life

It would have been great if she made little teaser to build the release of the album where we see each alter ego interacting with lisa

And then a final teaser of all the alter ego with lisa to clearly see how each side is different from the lisa we know

This concept had so much potential but the execution was so bad and uninspiring

when she release, New woman, moonlit floor, rockstar and announce the concept of her album

I remember i said in a thread here " that she was going for this alter ego concept cuz she probably liked a ton of different songs that she wanted to include in her album and considering she didn't have any idea of how to explain a reason to put all this different songs in one album, she call it alter ego"

And well i remember seeing her Billboard interview where she said the exact same thing saying that she register tons of different music genres that she liked and decided to call this album alter ego.

Considering the way this album got his name i'm not surprise that the execution of the alter ego concept felt flat and lazy

  • 3.5/5

The character sheets and texts were cringey af but the comic books and aesthetics were on point. She was committed to the concept.

For me, the core issue is there's too many and Lisa was overly ambitious. There's 5 when only 3 are distinctive from each other

There's the more feminine and vulnerable Sunni

    The Popstar diva Kiki

Speedi, likes fast cars and is a baddie

Roxi, a rockstar and a baddie

Vixi, idek what her thing is but also... A baddie.

The last 3 are not different from each other and neither are their sounds.

Listening to all 13 original songs and trying to assign them all to a character, I could come up with 3 for the Sunni identity (moonlit floor, dream, when I'm with you,), 5 for Kiki (Born Again, New Woman, Rapunzel, Chill, elastic girl) and the other 5 (Rockstar, Thunder, Bad Girl, FUTW, Lifestyle) sound like one persona, not 3. But she really wanted 5 for the whole star thing so she stretched it

And 13 songs is just not enough to show off that many different sides, should have done 20 songs :pepe-grooving:

  • Lisa's team should hire someone with your view. They wasted a pretty good concept not executing it right. Even Rosie did a better job at the alter ego concept and it wasn't even the main thing...
