If Jessica was never unceremoniously kicked out of SNSD, would their reign have lasted longer?

  • Doubtful.

Even after Jessica's exit, SNSD didn't collapse or fade away.

They were already on their 7th-8th year, that is pretty much the peak life of a GG in that era.

Even the 3rd gen is yet to prove they can last longer at the top - Blackpink & Twice, thanks to expanding internationally might get few more years. But that is today, back in 2015 - that was not an option.

So even if Jessica had not happened, I don't see SNSD being the top GG by 2017.

At least this way, they kind of retired at the top, rather than fade slowly into respected irrelevance.

  • No. I think it's pretty clear that they were interested in doing other things, and SME was interested in moving on to other groups. I see them splitting off in the same way with the only difference being that Jessica now returns for their comebacks and higher numbers with Jessica.

  • That's a tough question to answer.

I'd say maybe a bit longer if they all renewed their contracts together.

So, my reply is technically yes.

  • Yes, ot9 bond was quite strong in the fandom so when all the mess happened there was some unpleasant feeling and bc it was so "loud" even some parts of the GP didn't want to associate with their cbs in that time bc of all the negativism that was happening.

But that's my opinion and actually while I don't think they would be the top gg, they would still have hits. I could say like BP parting ways as soloists, but blinks still being almost 100% here to support their upcoming cbs.

  • Yama, I'm sure you're drunk. What are you talking about? SNSD's reign is not over yet, even without Jess. Alongside Bigbang, they're the only Kpop group that can chart in the TOP100. And they did it with their debut song last year as well.

So, don't act as if their reign is over. 😂

I swear, you're using me again to unflop your thread.

  • I'm just here to ask important questions in 2025.

I am a late-to-SONE-dom in 2018 tho I knew/watched Gee MV in 2009, and ITNW and others in between.

From backscrolling in 2018 on, SNSD was already against 2NE1 & Kara (and Wonder Girls/Miss a/apink) earlier and by late 2014 seemed to be below their peak (of 2009 and however long any one considers after Oh, Hoot, Genie and the rest)

Sica is my ult, but still I think it's objectively The Boys, Run Devil Run and Catch Me if You Can that SM producers tried to expand em from cutesy/girly concepts to closer to 2NE1/Kara (hip hop/crush concept) but 930 reverted to before. Who knows if they had continued expanding/widening but I think gp/fans weren't interested as much even earlier. Only slightly maybe with RDR.

I don't do what ifs irl. SNSD hvnt faded away after so long whereas WG, miss A, secret, rainbow, fin.kl, ses and cjsh the grace are barely mentioned by anyone to be reunion now unlike their closest rival 2NE1/Kara(maybe others but I can't think of em rn)

  • No because by 2016 2nd gen kpop groups started to fade away, became less relevant as a group, started getting recognized for their solo work instead. 3rd gen groups became the hot topic and you could notice it when almost no 2nd gen groups attended any award shows that year. 2015 was the last year 2nd gen fully dominated which was the last year they promoted as a group before taking a hiatus for 2 years. There was just a very obvious shift going from 2015 to 2016 and whether or not Jessica remained in SNSD, it wouldn't have changed a new girl group from taking away the title. Regardless of that, SNSD is still loved and cherished and their debut song is often used in protests as a message of empowerment and that's so much more valuable and touching than a title that is barely used anymore, if ever.

  • Jessica was such a key part of the group, and her departure definitely changed the dynamic. With her talent and popularity, I feel like they could’ve kept dominating the K-pop scene for a few more years.

I'm pretty sure the only thing that changed after SME kicked out Jess is now it's much easier for them to share group pictures on Twitter. You know, 4 in each row. 😂
