No, having a cake for your birthday really wasn't a tradition in my family. I could make one now, but I do prefer non-artificial food.

I've heard that the thing just tastes like wafer, though, the printed photo doesn't affect the taste.

Yes, I think they're quite popular especially with kids' birthdays, because it's easier to print an edible image than make a figurine, I think.
