I predicted a year ago that I would be making this thread again. Here we are.

Cheers BunniesTaglist to the best first comeback by a group in K-Pop history

One of the greatest K-Pop songs of all time accompanied by an instant classic MV that had all of K-Pop trying to dissect and deconstruct its intended meaning and message

  • I always was a bit sceptical about if Ditto was going to be considered a Christmas song by the public or just a thing of the fandom. Last year it rose a bit but it was still charting really high so it was complicated to be sure if it was for Christmas or because it was award season and it was sweeping the SOTYs.

This year we'll know better, this jump today is a good sign and it's now at #45. It would be a quite unique case because most Christmas songs aren't big hits per se, but songs that had an average charting in Korea at first but became more popular eventually during the Christmas seasons, if a song like Ditto with all the records it already has and the initial massive impact it had becomes a song that recharts all the years too it's gonna put it in a really really high position of the biggest hits of Korea.

I think the sample size is large enough now to confidently conclude that Ditto will rise every holiday season.

It also speaks to an overarching theme of NewJeans songs basically spending forever on the charts.

What I'm alluding to really is the fact that, even if NewJeans is inactive for a few months longer than they wanted, the public will never forget or stop listening to their music.

It will be their 3 year anniversary next year and they will probably still have title tracks from every era still in the top 100, and if not, it won't even be the oldest tracks falling out first, since Hype Boy and Ditto will clearly outlast and outpace even ETA and Super Shy

  • The longevity of the songs during this year is specially impressive, because most of the times songs rise when the artists have comebacks. This year when the press conference + the comeback the next month happened all the songs rose, but apart from that they've not released anything in the last 16 months. If they had their comeback now as MHJ planned it would have probably boosted the songs again and they'd start the year in a position to dominate the digital score again with a big gap considering the amount of songs charting + the new album.

Sadly we don't know when they're going to comeback again, could be in some few months but it could also take more, so this period of dominance is going to stop now and by the time their next comeback happen many of the songs charting now will have left the charts. I hope that at least Ditto and Hype boy will be around but it's mainly a matter of how long the injunction takes sadly. Since their debut the dominance has been ridiculously insane and it's really sad to see it slowing down because of Hybe.

It's truly infuriating how HYBE have ruined a truly historic stretch of chart dominance we've never seen from any girl group. The fact NewJeans have such a huge gap between them and the field on Circle Digital Index, with just 4 new songs, is miraculous enough. I highly doubt Hype Boy falls off the chart entirely even in 2025, but time will tell.

When NewJeans finally return, I expect the songs to all rise again.

  • well im barely a minute in and im tearing up

newjean's aesthetic isnt usually my style but im crying because this one's so nostalgic

its like ive seen this scene before

just paused the mv to wipe my tears how am i going to make it through the whole thing

Don't feel bad. Even the members cried while watching it.
