Ex member of Apink Naeun reveals in interview she is no longer in contact with other members

  • But still supports their endeavours

    Interview -

Naeun left APINK in 2022, 11 years after her debut. The group released a 10th anniversary album that year, but she didn't participate in any activities and announced her departure just two months later. Leader Jung Eunji (31) is still pursuing her acting career alongside APINK, so many fans are sad to see her go. Although she has been misunderstood, she says, "I don't feel bad about it," adding, "I filmed all the music videos for the 10th anniversary album, but I couldn't (work with them) due to scheduling conflicts. I was sorry for the members and fans, and I was also very disappointed. We were together for a long time in our teens and 20s, so it's a beautiful and precious memory," he said.

"Now it's my time to show my place. We've been together for a long time, so I wanted to stay with the team until the end, but there was a part of me that had to accept it. I decided to let it go rather than be sad. I'm not in contact with them (the members) now, but I'm cheering for them as a fan. Eunji's work ('Miss Night and Day') did well, and I felt good that I hit the nail on the head. I'm going to look for all the members' releases. Everyone is doing their best and I'm cheering them on from the bottom of my heart."

  • Just shows that most members are just like "co-workers" and not really like friends.

It just depends on the group and the idol. For every situation like this, there’s another one like 2NE1, where the members make the effort to stay in touch from time to time and even have a comeback.

2NE1, SNSD, Brave Girls, and Fiestar did it, so I think this “most members are not actually close” narrative is a misconception. It just depends on the group, and obviously, a member who left had a reason to leave. She’s focusing on her own career now, so it makes sense she’s not talking to them.

This. I won't go to say that "it makes sense that she iwn't in touch with them," since that is crazy. But there are times that you just grow apart from your co-workers that you'e held onto for years. That is normal. You don't know the cause. You just know the end. Let both sides rest. They released great songs in their time. Let them handle their situations on their own. We'll always remember their good times 🥲

What I mean is that when people go their separate ways, it's natural for them to stop speaking because they're on completely different paths now. They no longer have the same commonalities they once did. It's understandable. It makes sense in that way.

  • Something people need to consider is that idols might be super close in their younger years as they live together but the true test of friendships is when they move out and do less group activities. Similar to school, lots of friendships happen because of the environment and it's convenient and easy to hang out when you live and work together. But when things require more effort and planning, some idols might not appear to be super close anymore if they don't constantly hang out. Of course you're not going to see your friends all the time, but if you rarely speak or meet with your group mates then it is questionable how close you currently are with them. At one point in the past, groups could have been best friends and like family, but that dynamic can change. Doesn't mean it wasn't real, but might not be the same dynamic today.

I don't acctually get the feeling the girls in 2NE1 is very close. Well, Dara seems to be in good terms with the others.

Sure, some are acctually close friends, but in general I get the feeling few are really good friends in kpop groups

  • I think thats the opposite…. Theyre friends, but theyre not FAMILY.

I become friends with my coworkers all the time, but when i work somewhere new that doesnt mean i have to cut them off if that makes sense.

Well, of cource you have a lof of co-workers you are "friendly" with, but with close friends I mean like hanging out a lot just with them after worktime and keeping contact. If you stop having contact with a co-worker after you are not working anymore that probably a sign you are not really friends but friendly co-workers. Not always the case of cource, sometimes you split up just becasue you are moving far away from each other.

Fair enough. Out all the members, Dara seems to make the most effort in connecting with the other members. She also seems to be the one who wanted the Coachella reunion the most. Prior to it, she had been talking about how she wish she cherished her time in 2NE1 more instead of worrying during that time. She was very genuine about it, too. You may have seen this during a variety show.

Dara seems to be the one who has the best relationship with Korean media, so she is 2NE1's publicist in a way. It's really great to see. I like that she doesn't seem to look back on anything with resentment, but rather, she appreciates the entire journey.

  • That is kinda of sad, as if YG wanted too I am sure they could have scheduled things around APink so that she did not have to choose between her acting and friends. It is even more sad that they do not speak, I am glad she still wishes them success though.

Edit: I say this as someone who owns quite a few of their DVD versions of releases where they talk about what members were close, so while they may not all be close, some were with Naeun, and the fact that they grew apart in order to be able to have the lives they want, is always a bittersweet thing. Ending of friendships for non famous people, where there is no falling out but just having different lives, is also bittersweet.

  • The reality is one or two members in the same group might be close but all members that is a lie the entertainment companies sell to people. Shinee key said it well I believe it js important to maintain a business/coworker relationship. Someone mentioned snsd which to me is reason why it should have been a business relationship with all 9 of them to avoid situations like 9/30.
