IU decides to go for broke in her Soccer Stadium Concert - she becomes the singer who had the largest concert in Korean history

  • Lee Jieun has announced her floor plan for her concert in the Seoul Soccer Stadium, and i find it hard to copy the map here but she will do the concert using 3/43 of the stadium, including most of the field.

Lim Youngwoong tried to hurt KPop by denying the use of the field of the stadium a few months ago

However, the former owner of Edam Entertainment decided not to do what LYW did to placate the Korean soccer fans.

She decided to have a floor plan similar to what Big Bang and later GDragon had, albeit for one day.

The singer who had taken a photo with anchovy will use 3/4 of the stadium. It is not known how many seats will be on the floor. Big Bang's concert was standing-only on the floor, to maximize attendance, so 70,000 attended it. GDragon was less ambitious and 45,000 attended it.

It is estimated that at least 55,000, and as many as 65,000, will be attending each day, making her concert 110,000-130,000 big.

That is the largest concert held in Korean history.

that reopens door for other idol groups to have concerts on the floor, making having concerts there feasible again, something Lim Youngwoong tried to prevent it.

It is likely that BTS' concert there, probably in early 2026, will be all-around, since it will not be too happy to see the title of the largest concert in Korean history to be held by a nonKpopper.

  • Well good for her!

I still don’t understand the cries of soccer fans! If LYW concert damaged the field they could easily replace it, since Stadium owners approved the concert itself

The field need time to grow the grass roots if the field is damaged. Most stadium using real grass, not artificial grass. If they just replace just like putting the new grass and play it immediately, grass will be pull out with just one kick. At the end of match will look like they play in mud cause . Hope some kpop fans got some common knowledge

I know they use real grass. Then why who was responsible for stadium approved that concert?

Or is there only 1 football stadium in SK?

Come on, business are focused on profits, while fans - kpop or soccer are focused on experience/emotions. They will not align always.

Don't kpop fans constantly throw hissy fits over some or other agency decision.. logic/details don't matter much.

Of course the stadium governor approved it. That why they approved the concert after national team South Korea play the world cup qualifier. That is because they dont want to damage grass before national team play there. There are many stadiums across seoul and SK but only 1 available and big enough for big concert rn while other 1 bigger stadium under renovation .

Why dont the kpop company or work together to built one stadium specialised for concert when they are battle the schedule with football matches?? Is it because it not profitable enough and not very frequent artist to do concert each year??

  • So the stadium governor allow the IU concert using full stadium area. Did you know the concert will be held after SK football WC qualifier matches and in between 2 week of football club that using it. So nothing problem about LYW when respect the national SK team. I don't understand the cries of kpop fans when they are the one rent the place from the owner

Simply they don’t have enough money to fund that project!

Also as you said it is not profitable, since there are not many big acts who can fill the stadium!

And stan culture is different in SK and Japan! That’s why even not really popular kpop groups can sell out Tokyo Dome(55k), while they can’t sell out KSPO dome(15k) in SK

That always surprises me.. Koreans aren't that much into Kpop, so it is no surprise that when they learn about the antics of i-fans, they react with derision.

All those Knetz vs ifans reports.

I don't know if there is any comparable case in other societies where something theirs is internationally famous, but not to that extent within the country itself.

Maybe India's Yoga - popular export, but Indian's themselves aren't so much into it, maybe 5% of the population.

  • So IU, whom you accuse of damaging Kpop for a decade, now has become the defender of Kpop, against the trottist LYW?

    Interesting turn of events.

It has been always kind of complex.

While in her heart she wants KPop to end, if KPop ends her income will also fall sigificantly since she did ride on the coattails of the KPop conquest of the world.

So, unlike LYW who does not give a crap about the end of KPop, she is kinda concerned about its continuation for some degree. If she grows too old to benefit from KPop maybe she will launch her final plan to end KPop, but till then she does need KPop's continuatino

Complex - that is more you, than her.

In any case, seems she might release single ahead of Sangam. and will hit 100K audience for her 100th concert.

But she seriously should consider taking on trot. LYW needs some competition.

The City of Seoul owns the stadium. The soccer team at there just rents from the City. In Korea teams cannot own stadiums unless they built the structure themselves.

There are several soccer stadiums in Korea, built for the 2002 World Cup, but most of them are very poorly maintained and are out of way. For example, the Asiad stadium in Pusan, for the BTS free concert Yet to Come, had its ceiling damaged but the problem is still not fixed.

  • Some mods don't like me talking against Korea so I cannot talk about it at here

This is really interesting! In my country or in majority countries that I know well football teams own the stadium 🏟️!

So football fans should stop crying if they rent the stadium itself, as korean acts do! They are in the same boat!
