I have sometimes thought the thing about changing your given name is strange

  • I had heard of people changing their name and maybe saying "My name is not Susan anymore, it's Caroline."

And I had sometimes thought that if I changed my name, things would be confusing and stuff. (even though I don't mind being called Goose, but that is because I don't want to reveal my real name)

But because of the fact that I'm not that bothered by my name, I don't even feel like there is any need to change my name. Even though as an author, sometimes I have wanted a pseudonym. (Even though HwaGoose or any of my other usernames can almost be considered pseudonyms, when I write fanfics and stuff)

I feel differently about usernames though. Even though I only change usernames, when I feel like I have gotten tired of it. But I have only changed it twice on this forum.

I don't know how many of you got confused when I changed it to HwaGoose, but at least it is not that different from the one I had before.

But well, Blackpink's Lisa's birth name isn't Lalisa. I have heard that it is not uncommon for people in Thailand to change their name because of good fortune or stuff.

I think there have also been cases of Korean kpop artists changing their legal names. Only example that I can currently think of is Yesung, who changed his legal name from Jongwoon to Kanghoon.

And of course, there are trans people, who would not want to be called by their birth name.

I know that there is this Danish person, who was in a documentary together with her sisters, which was about their bad childhood. (I haven't seen that one, but I have read a memoir by her sister)

And that person changed her name because her birth name reminded her about her trauma.

Someone in my country changed his name because his birth name made people mistake him for being a woman, so he changed it to a more masculine name.

  • I've always wanted to change my name, or at least go by a different name without legally changing it, I like how people in Thailand go by nicknames their parents give to them, so I might do that once I go off to college. I guess it is kinda strange to change your name or even username, but I don't think I'll ever change my username because it's iconic in a way and it has a lot of good memories tied to it from akp.
