Debate of who was more influential, BlackPink or IU - the importance of ignoring Korean opinion on KPpp figures

  • Who do you think was more influential? 24

    1. BlackPink (10) 42%
    2. IU (14) 58%

With BTS out of picture, there is an argument about who is the most influential after it, BlackPink or IU.

Virtually everyone outside of Korea will argue that BlackPink was most influential of everyone not named BTS.

if Kpop had made a complete, irreversible break with Korea, this kind of argument would not even exist. Blackpink would be the Greatest of KPop now, and IU would be some local singer.

Same reason few people pay attention to the Brazilian soccer league or the baseball leagues of various Caribbean countries.

However, at the infancy of KPop boom, there were few news sources available and IU was featured often with the likes of SNSD, 2PM, 2AM, T-Ara,etc. So her positoin among earlier KPop fans was not small.

So, the opinion in Korea kind of became the tail which wagged the dog.

Some koreans think because, despite of BlackPink selling more albums than IU, and Jisoo's solo exceeding 1 million copies while Lee Jieun's album did not hit 400,000, and BlackPink's spotify is much better while Lee Jieun has NO spotify songs of her own exceeding 200 million,

because Lee Jieun's melon record is better and she has had a larger concert than BP in Korea, Lee Jieun is more influential.

While few people outside of Korea agree to this argument, because a lot of KPop news comes out from Korea and BlackPink has largely avoided Korea and concentrated in the overseas, a lot of Korean media tends to stand by the domesticist.

I wish all Korean promotions, which are just waste of time in most acts, by Kpop figures who are worth something to stop, since they don't need Korean exposures any more and Korea only consists 10% of the KPop market.

But , because of the greed of Korean company owners and their desire to look good among the elites of Korea, a clean break has not been made between KPop and Korea, which I have criticised for as long as I remember.

the dual system of someone only relevant in Korea treated similar to someone who has almost dominated the world is something which has to be corrected.

Separating Korea and KPop is what JYP and Bang and others are trying to do, and with Iu about to wreck havoc in korean Pop once again next year, keeping her and any domesticist out of the debate ill be the greatest assignment KPop will have to
