Bruno Mars' concert at the Chamshil Olympic Stadium, which is to be remodelled for at least 3 years, on June is the talk of the town.
However,
Billie EIlish's concert appears to be no different than other Hyundai Card sponsored concerts. Billie is guaranteed an amount by the guy who runs Hyundai card, and those who used credit cards issued from Hyundai get a discount of around 15%.
Still,…
His two day concert is part of the Hyundai Card promotion.
In other words, he is guaranteed an amount by the owner of Hyundai Card, a brother-in-law of the current owner of Hyundai and Kia motors, and whatever excess ticket sold will be the profit of Hyundai Card.
Coldplay, in apr 15-16, 2017, reportedly had a 100,000 audience in a 2 day concert at the Chamshil but it was also a Hyundai card event/
In 1996, Michael Jackson had a 2 day concert at the Chamshil. His concert was the only non-'guarantee' 2 day full concert by a foreign singer, but it was NOT full, the only concert which was not full during his History World Tour on that year.
There were concerts by Korean singers at the Chamshil before , but either they were one day events, or half-full 2 day events. Shinhwa and Psy had half-full 3 day concerts.
The holy grail by every singer in K-O-R-E-A is a multi-day, non-guarantee (i.e. the singer claims the profit from any excessive sales) concert at the Chamshil.
It was finally achieved by BTS on 2018 when it did Love Yourself : on Aug 25-25 on that year.
On 2019 it repeated the feat by doing a 3 day sold out concert on Mar 10 and Mar 12-13.
It would have been much better if this record stood, but unfortunately the covid thing hit and the next 2 BTS concerts there were either empty or accepted only 1/3 of the capacity.
Because of this gap, someone was able to sneak in.
BTS were men, a group, young (Jungkook was 21 when the first Chamshil concert took place - Seokjin was 27) and internationally relevant -
The singer who sneaked into there was a woman, a soloist, not young (1,343 years old) and completely irrelevant as far as the world was concerned.
ill never
However, because she had a no-guarantee, sold-out 2 day concert there on Sep 17-18, 2022, IU reached the same stature as BTS.
Twice, BlackPink, NewJeans, FiftyFifty, etc will have a long time entering the Chamshil Olympic Stadium, and as long as these two acts, one very internationally relevant and one very internationally irrelevant, hold such records, they will never be seen as dominant by the K-O-R-E-A-N-S.
