  • You can see that among the trainees at YWY and Chuang. It seems the boys (Nine Percent!) are routinely over 180cm and girls 170cm.

Nine percent has been notorious in china for inflating their heights. Minghao has measured somewhere between 5'9/5'10 on TV and the tallest guy Linong measured 6'0 (with shoes) making him really in the 5'11 range.

Cai Xukun, Yanjun, Zhengting, and Chengcheng are similar to Minghao making them all around 5'10, which isn't exactly short but isn't tall either.

There are some actual tall actors in China including guys like Kris Wu, Hu Yitian, and Song weilong。 Among girls, Jenny Zeng and Zhang Yifan are very tall, but I feel most of the 5'7+s are probably shorter. For example, Wang Yijin and Kiki both measured themselves live before and both were around or under 5'6.

  • I think it'd be more interesting if tall people are coming from areas that were previously known for being shorter (i.e. not the North).

Note: I took a look at the study.

The main take away I got from it was the developing societies got the biggest gains in height...probably due to diet.

So while the Dutch may be the tallest, they accrued most of those gains a long time ago. I suppose we'll see where heights end up over time.

  • Shanghai is considered South China correct?

Interesting observation from an Indian woman living in China. She said she's 5'5" which is actually fairly tall for a woman and she is constantly looking up at people in Shanghai. The height of people in China was her number 1 shock when first arriving in China. (Her husband is very tall but he is from Northern China. )

Another interesting observation is Hindi songs are song in karaoke in China!

  • Shanghai is in East China region but it is considered as southern part of China. I think height increase has to do with nutrition as China is getting wealthier. Tall genes have already existed in China. Average terracotta warrior height is 185cm and records and bones have shown ancient people to be taller than modern people.

  • Interviewing some Chinese boys -- some are SOOO TALL and cute :)
