A break away SM 2.0 company?

  • I don't know what's going to happen with the Hybe X SM situation, but let's say in a hypothetical scenario that Hybe manages to buy 50% or more shares of SM. Meaning almost total control of the company. LSM newphew, staff loyal to him and even SM artists leaves the company and they form a new company that is identical to SM. Maybe they can't use the name SM anymore, but the structure of the company will be similar and they will be backed by Kakao. Do you think that is a possibility?

  • It’s too difficult to almost impossible because SM has many shit. Not only that but you mean the artists and the staff only? what about their Collaboration deals and shares of other sub companies. Like Lysn and their album distributor company and many more.

Idk what’s hybe thinking of wanting to acquire a company bigger than them in number of artists, and a company that has its own apps and distributors that rival their own which they will have to cancel out (LysnBubble>Weverse/Dreamus>plus …etc)

But could they make a new agency from scratch without any SM affiliated stuff like apps, logo like you mentioned? Another question is, how big will that agency be if they got a hold on most of former staff and idols? Bigger than Starship?

  • Established Artists are not going to walk away from a guarantee successful company for a start up. Artists have a life style, bills and away of life they are accustomed to. Would they be willing to take a pay cut, lose all the fringe benefits in order for SM 2.0 to be able to survive their first couple of years? The cost of producing an album, the incredible cost of putting on a tour would kill them

JYJ said even with getting blocked they still earned alot more as independent artists.

Never underestimate how much these companies are taking out of the artists profits.

  • I definitely see some of the established acts especially ones approaching contract renewal doing this.

A precedent has already been set that as long as they all leave SM - they will be able to use the group name still.

Even if they had to change their name like Beast/highlight it would not matter to their fanbase which is already solid and loyal.
