Even though it got almost no promo from netflix it was still number one for weeks before Wednesday pushed it to #2

I feel like there is no point in getting invested in any netflix series anymore if they just going to cancel everything after just 1 season .... I'm pissed :pepe-laser-eyes: :exit-pepe:

I really wanted this to fill the void that Dark left behind but know it's over :drown-in-tears:

  • I didn't watch this but Netflix have started a nasty habit of cancelling series now.... bad sign think this means they are investing in a new series, looking at the response and then moving on if it's not doing amazing. In the past they'd try and grow the series and viewership

yes! a couple years ago netflix weren't like this, most series got a fair chance at renewal even Dark got it even though its first season was far less popular than 1899

netflix must be in deep trouble ...

  • I thought only lgbtq series were cursed on netflix but I was wrong smh

apparently everything is, most netflix series I started this year got cancelled ....

I got attached to 'the bastard son and the devil himself' lgbtq series so they naturally canceled it not even after a month ... I swear if they cancel Heartstopper to I riot :pepe-cut:

Heartstopper is already renewed for two more seasons I read :eyes:

It will have 3 seasons in total

    As it should be

  • Well I started and stopped watching Altered Carbon after it got cancelled, now Fate/Winx saga got cancelled as well.... definite trend NETFLIX >>> :pepe-clown-gear:

at least season one of altered carbon more or less kind of wraps up the main story still the concept was interesting it had so much potential :pepe-sad:

  • It's the Netflix curse. They order some far out project for a tidy sum but then it doesn't do as well as they expected so they axe it. Worse if the project they made is sub par like the Witcher.

Speaking of 1899 I felt that dragged on the mystery of what was going on for far too long, every ep was a new mystery or character to ponder over and lots only by the last 2 eps they do some vague explanation of why things happening. It's only right at the end the mystery is half resolved. That sort of story telling can be fun to theorise over but if you keep getting breadcrumbs but no significant plot development it becomes a chore (oooh I hope they delve deeper into what these hidden rooms are.......aaaand we're following a new character with unknown origins starting from scratch).

agree It dragged but I was still way too entertained by trying to guess and figure out the mystery behind everything I got really into the atmosphere also the characters were pretty interesting (just like in Dark)

not to mention the production quality

I heard they planned 3 season to finish the whole story and I really hoped we would get that :peperain:

The reason why I felt it dragged is because I figured out big reveal by I think ep2 (I watch a lot of sci fi so I picked up on some of the hints) but like I said they didn't keep pace with the plot as they kept resetting it to start a new characters story. It was frustrating how most of them don't really add much to the main through story line and their own personal stories don't hold much weight (eg the 2 French soldiers fled battle in the past, met up on the ship and..... Have a brief chat and that's about it until something happens to them).

If there was a S2 it would have be drastically different given the new circumstances. Quality could go either.

Dark pulled off mystery better as ever season while you figure out mysteries of who's related to who and what they did to each other in the past/present/future, the story still utilised everyone so there wasn't any waste. Plus the big endgame stories where always known (eg the black hole in s1) and we steadily moved towards it episode by episode.

  • I can't find the exact tweet, but I remember when Neil Gaiman's Sandman came to Netflix, he shared a tweet thread from a former Netflix analyst who commented that all Netflix cares about is the first 28 days of viewing. If that doesn't do EXCEPTIONALLY well, another season is not a guarantee. They don't have any good metrics or ways to capture cult followings or shows that get hyped up after that first 28 days.

So if I don't have time to watch a show I'm excited about in that first month window, I still will put it on in the background to try to contribute to those hours. It feels like the sort of gaming the algorithm nonsense that you have to do to help your favorite creators out on YouTube and the like. :boredr:
