In Born Pink's case, for a week, all streams, no matter from who, counted as premium, in additional to have a very low filtering rate. Thus their streams counted more - giving them a leg up on competition who didn't have that deal with Spotify and had to deal with normals rates of filtering and lessen streams for free vs premium. In return, the label usually agrees to things like accept in lower royalties per stream, sometimes exclusive content if it's a big artist like Blackpink.

This type of deal is nothing new. As I said before, the industry subsists on it and actively encourages these things - and most Western labels give in and consider it the cost of doing business. The ones who suffer are those who don't do it.

That is quite literally not what anyone else besides kpop fans see since BP had this deal see as Payola.

Payola had been about a company literally paying to get a song to the top and it was always used to refer to radio play. Not spotify streams. It's about ILLEGAL means to get a song somewhere. I L L E G A L.

BP's spotify deal was via a playlist, which is why they had filtered streams still regardless of the deal lol

Here's the playlist. I didn't know about the deal for the longest time and i never even streamed through here. Not that it matters cause i got premium anyway so..
