Crazy to think they only debuted 9 months ago.
Thoughts on the O.O stage:
- It was nostalgic watching this. I haven't listened to O.O in like 5 months.
- Sullyoon's run at the very beginning was really cute.
- Having Sullyoon on the ground leading the dance while all the other girls were up top was an interesting choice. Feel like maybe Jinni should have had that part, but also the fact the camera never focused on Sullyoon long enough for me to even know if she did a good job.
Guess I'll have to wait for her fancams to see. - The CGI was really good.
But seriously, I think seeing the multicolored fish CGI would have been really cool in person. - Wish they had remixed O.O and focused more on the vocal performance because the choreo is the best part about the song otherwise imo, and the camera work was shit so couldn't even really see that.
Thoughts on the Dice stage:
- Overall, I preferred this stage.
- The stage itself was less elaborate than O.O, but because there wasn't as much going on, I could really see them performing as group and it felt more cohesive. It was honestly a little like watching a music show on a larger stage with background dancers and a dance break, lol. I liked it though.
- Have no idea who came up with the idea of having the high note be carried from Sullyoon, Haewon, and then to Lily? Like...why? I guess to give the other girls a little bit more showcasing since Sullyoon was the star of O.O. Overall, was not a well executed idea. I had no idea what was happening. I thought Sullyoon ran out of breath and Lily took over for her.
- Dance break was absolute fire!!! But, the lighting was horrendous. Also a really bad idea lmao. I could barely see Jiwoo or Jinni during their portion of the dance break.
In summary, not a bad 1st MAMA, but definitely some things to work on. Like, what were those shoes JYPE? You're hell bent on making these girls dance in the least malleable shoes that actually allow movement. Also, better stage direction because the O.O stage was just too chaotic in conjunction with MAMA's spastic camera work.
Girls were gorgeous tho, and sounded good in the pockets where we could actually hear them.
