Most Kpop fans are way to intense for my liking

  • They are very entitled and too attached to their faves as if they personally knew them. I used to be a more intense stan but after a Kpop break and some changes in my personal life, I came back and now I feel even more at odds with most of the community. I like Kpop and I still stan certains groups but Kpop lost most of its magic for me. I just check albums and some performances these days. I don't feel the need to watch every content and sometimes it even bores me.

I also don't like the inversion of values in the Kpop community. You are the odd one if you care more about talent than visuals or more about music than success. Kpop stans will accuse you of lying because they can't conceive that you think differently from them.

I decided to unstan one of the groups that I have stanned for several years. I just don't like their music as much as before but to be fair fans are also part of the problem. They are so obsessed with this group's success that they micromanage every part of their career from their last stage outfits to their daily performance on Spotify. I just want to enjoy music but I have been accused once or twice of being disloyal or lazy which sounds crazy to me because we are talking about a musical act not one of my relatives that I should take care of. I sometimes feel pressured to stream and I hate this. I can't conceive that a fan would artificially inflate their faves numbers on some platforms and not just simply enjoy the music when they want it. Those who stream can do it for all I care but leave me alone if I don't want to do the same.

I discovered the way Twitter stans sometimes "joke" about this group and I was shocked. "We prefer our boys bitchless." and so on. It did not make me laugh at all. I found that cringe and almost disturbing.

I also don't like how Kpop stans are that defensive of their faves especially when they did something wrong. They really defend fucked-up behaviors at times. I am not in favor of the cancel culture but you can hold someone accountable without unstanning or ignoring them. Some stans live in their Kpop bubble in which the worst thing that can happen is their faves having an unsuccessful comeback meanwhile the world is falling apart.

I hate fanwars and even more because of its main reason : this insane competition and this "Winners take it all" mindset. Kpop stans don't want their faves to be one of the top acts or even live comfortably thank to their activities, they want the group to be THE top group and everyone else is a flop even if the members from successful groups all roll in cash and some of these stans haven't worked once in their life yet.

I know that not everyone in the community is part of the problem but I also blame the so-called neutral stans who participate in normalizing these obsessive and toxic behaviors.

  • Feel the intensity!

  • and this is an intense essay for anon

  • welcome to the club. This is a very popular opinion.

  • Why unstan? Just listen to the music you like from them, then detach yourself from social media. Problem solved.

  • I'm not active on social media and any kpop forums (except here anon) so I don't feel any pressure although I Stan the most successful Kopp group in history :teeheek:
