Will Jang Wonyoung finally be able to dethrone a certain Senior Singer?

  • She does manage to obtain respects from all of her younger generations so she would retain a superiority to the bitter end.

Well the respect is not undeserved, neither is it common.

She holds so many achievements in the field, that it would be utterly churlish for any of the youngsters not to respect her.

  • Anything is possible.

After all, who in 2010 would have predicted that IU in a couple of years would start her journey into the most sucessful sing-song writer to have existed in korea? She basically went from a cute and very popular idol to one of the most respected artists overnight, five years into her career.

  • Anything is possible.

Anything is of course possible, but we should predict on what is available now.

For Wonyoung, the most probable path with best returns is the 'It girl' path and not musical success. And she has not shown any exceptional vocal, dance or songwriting skills to predict a career of dethroning IU.

If it all she dethrones IU - it will be most probably in the 'It girl' aspect i.e. take Hite Jinro from IU and not on the digital charts, even if Ive continues with the current success.

She holds so many achievements in the field, that it would be utterly churlish for any of the youngsters not to respect her.

She fought KPop for 12 years, handled all the acts which were famous around the world and outlived BTS (although that might be reversed, which is why she is not making the commitment to do the long drama in case she has to head the coalition against BTS next year).

She is also an ideal by every single idol in KPop, because she did create her own kingdom and became her own boss, something every idol craves in the end, although the independence only lasted 2 years.

  • although the independence only lasted 2 years.

    What do you mean?

IU's independence or that of other idols.

If IU's, then I suppose you are referring to the dilution of her stock ownership. Even if so, she probably owns more of EDAM than other idols of their companies.

Secondly autonomy is not just from ownership, but from contractual obligations - unless we know the specifics of the contract, any lose of independence is just imagination.

In fact ownership can actually restrict independence, for it will make her more responsible for the paychecks of the employees, now that can be on Kakao's head and she can have more bandwidth.

  • Other idols do envy the financial and directorial independence she enjoyed from around 2015 to 2022.

Most idols are still dependent upon their companies. Kang Daniel is one of the rare exceptions,

As seen in the recent attempt of Kakao to pack Woodz (Cho Seungyoun) into Edam, which is not concluded yet because Woodz' contract with Yuehua ends at the end of this month, Kakao is now trying to reduce her control over Edam now it has the majority of shares. IN other words her independence is ending.

But other idols will have learned from her experience and will not let their former companies buy back shares into their own companies if they ever become independent.

  • Her independence depends on her contract and not whether someone else is signed up or not.

At least if she were in early stages of her career, the agency could craft the contract to their benefit, but now.. she can walk into any agency in S.Korea and they will crawl if she asks them to bend

    So meh..

Very few artists are interested in controlling companies, that is a hefty job and will suck up their time.

It will be worse is the agency has other artists as well.

You can run with your wild imaginations, but reduced ownership share means little to get actual work.

In any case, we can't know either way, unless they end up in some dispute
