It is normal for me. I was ALWAYS night person. I go sleep around 2-4am and wake up at 10-12 am since always. Ofc, wake up earlier if I have something to do that day.
Edit: But I never go sleep early even if I have to wake up early for something. I just survive without a lot of sleep or have nap after I come home.

Melatonin can be helpful, I've taken it so I can sleep before.
There's nothing there that can be harmful. Why is your mom opposed, it's the most gentle thing. If she wants testimonies from people who've taken it for sleep before, I can give you testimony that it's helpful, not harmful.
