Approved the thread. -
I mean it's competition is a song released only 3 weeks beforehand, so that song would also apply to the "not released in Janurary or year before" scenario.
Either way, we're getting a song released 3 months into the year as #1 song.

Pink Venom ended all these kpop songs internationally.

Tomboy is ten times as interesting as Love Dive will ever be lol
written by the group itself, saying something about what it means to be a girl rather than just a bunch of pretty models singing some generic pop song somebody else wrote before they even existed

Not this "I'm not like the other girls" bullshit again
Love Dive is one of the most iconic kpop songs in recent years of kpop, by the way

Internationally AND in South Korea. Are u reading ok? It's a Korean award so they are going to consider the domestic market first and foremost. I only mention internationally cause sometimes Award shows look at that too.

I don't wanna play this ping pong
I would rather film a TikTok
Your mom raised you as a prince
But this is queendom, right?
I like dancing, I love my friends
Sometimes we swear without cigarettes
I like to eh, on drinking whiskey
I won't change it, what the hell?lmao the "lyricism"

I don't want to play this ping pong -
Means the singer/protagonist doesn't want to do the back and forth of the relationship
I would rather film a tik tok -
Social media, particularly partner social media in Korea, is filled with couple selfies. The protagonist is stating they'll just do it themselves - go alone
Your mom raised you as a prince

Fairly self explanatory. The guy is an asshole who's raised to think he's all that, and the protagonist basically says no, it's my world here.
I like dancing, I love my friends
Sometimes we swear without cigarettes -
There's a cultural stereotype about females, in Korea, that if a lady swears, she's assumed to have all "bad habits", ie smoke cigarettes, delinquent, etc etc. The protagonist is simply stating - I'm allowed to swear, and it doesn't mean anything else about me
I like to eh, on drinking whiskey
I won't change it, what the hell? -
Again, the cultural stereotype on full blast - she drinks "whiskey" and man's drink, and will have sex if she so chooses, puncturing the "purity" stereotype that incels of Korea always try to smother girls with.
Lyricism is great - says exactly what it needs to, reaching into Korean Stereotypes and is a powerful, feminist statement.
No surprise anon have no idea how to understand lyrics. Go back to your poppy love songs singing about "oppa", leave the real music to people who can recognize it.

Definitely deserve.
Best release this year.

It's ironic that you are explaining Tomboy lyrics as an anthem of self love to throw shade at Love Dive when Love Dive is literally about the myth of Narcissus. I don't think I even have to explain, if you read the lyrics it becomes clear enough.

Groundbreaking stuff, talking about love and obsession. Never done before ever by Kpop. Hoo Boy. And ancient western mythology... completely fresh and new... of about 2 months since INVU came out with the same theme.
Again, it's all meaningless. Their not saying anything, it's just using an analogy to talk about the humdrum stuff all those songs sing about, love and romance.
Tomboy dropped barely weeks into the election of an anti-feminist president. Obviously not planned those direct circumstances, but it's a powerful song in a country that doesn't take too kindly to that message, and no wonder it resonated so wildly. Love Dive is a good song, it's catchy and it's fun, but don't make me laugh about saying the lyrics are anything special.
