Was 3rd generation the hardest time for girl groups?

  • Gfriend, MMM and OMG managed to chart well, however not even at the same time.

Um Oh Ah Yeah was pretty big even before Gfriend's peak. Then Rough and You're the best both smashed domestic charts almost at the same time. It was RV the group that wasn't doing that well by that time.

But anyway, I think bgs were the ones that had the hardest time to stay relevant. Ikon, Winner, Pentagon, Monstax, etc etc. All of them are pretty much forgotten now.

  • Gfriend's popularity in top tier was very short lived tho, MGT, Rought and Navillera, then they had another hit with TTML, same as OMG, even shorter, from Nonstop, Dolphin and DDDance, Mamamoo is the only non big 3 which had a longer career in top tier

  • Am i taking crazy pill? this thread is 100% false lol. Outside big 4 ggs rn only ive and stayc have any sort of public relevance in korea (and gidle if you count them 4th gen; i don’t). So that’s at most 3 non-big 4 4th gen ggs compared to 3 non-big 3 3rd gen ggs who managed to reach the top. How does that mean 4th gen is doing any better than 3rd gen in that regard? Kpop is still as top heavy as ever, only groups coming from big companies have a real chance of success, the rest depends heavily on luck. In fact, at least 3rd gen lifted 2 companies out of complete nugudom thanks to mamamoo and gfriend; for 4th gen ive and gidle come from starship and cube - hardly nugu by any means, and bep’s company was not entirely nugu either but i’ll be generous and give them that title. So for 4th gen it’s actually even harder to be top tier if you come from a completely nugu company. And amongst these non-big 4 ggs, stayc, who’s in the top 3, is no where near on par with how popular mamamoo and gfriend were, so that’s another point awarded to 3rd gen. So what exactly do you mean by 4th gen is producing more successful non-big 4 ggs than 3rd gen? Bc that’s absolutely not true lol

The only gen in which groups from small companies still had a chance was 2nd gen. After kpop’s popularity gradually declined in korea at the end of 2nd gen the public was never as keen on checking out nugu groups ever again. Only big 4 groups have guaranteed success now, and that’s the case for both 3rd and 4th gen

completely agree. I’m used to the short memories in Kpop but the desire to crown 4th Gen so early feels just too early.
