Ideal number of back up dancers for soloist?

  • I used to think 4 or 6 is good. Then Advice and Bad Love came with 12 and my mind was blown over how dramatic and theatrical they looked. Now watching Gasoline dance practice with 20, I'm thinking the more the merrier. It's just matter of having the confident to be better than all of your back ups, which Taemin and Key certainly do.

  • I like when they have a formed relationship and have done multiple projects with each other. Like the group of backup dancers that performed with Nayeon for POP throughout her whole promotion period knew each other well and have worked together before.

A smaller group is perfect but a bigger one could work based on how well it looks with the song and soloist.

  • Honestly, 1 or 50 it could all still look good depending on the performer

    Exactly!

If the idol is gonna get overshadowed even 1 back up is too much

  • Ah, I see. As you could tell I don't follow a lot of solo artists. :pleading:

I really like that though :music-raccoon:

Oh yeah Twice probably never uses backups for theor group songs right?

  • I disagree

dancers should be like props on the stage

you should use them wisely but still be on the front and don't have situations when you are relying on them

if there is a need for that dancers to be all the time on stage and in heavy numbers

then you basically are failing to captivate public on your own

    for soloists

Taemin should be a blueprint how to use dancers

Nope, not really. It's pretty much only for concerts they do that.

And they almost never do that for music videos. So it was really surprising to see backup dancers in The Feels music video. But it made sense to because a prom concept would feel empty without other people in it.

It even took a while for some ONCE in this scene to be like "oh my goodness, so those girls aren't the Twice members?" but all the backup dancers here are female, there are 7 of them and they're doing the same choreography they would if the Twice members were performing.

  • Taemin can use any number of dancers bc it's guaranteed he will out dance them all

I have seen him in a concert with an army of dancers and he still stood out.
