Yes but that's life

Yes, but that’s pop music. Madonna and Britney have legendary careers and both are meh to naw as vocalists. There are much better vocalists in country yet Taylor Swift became a star and there are better vocalists in r&b and yet Rihanna became a star.
Kpop stans just seem to justify it more. They’ll argue that their faves have vocal color or how great technical vocals aren’t important or how people with perfect vocals are robots.
In contrast, Britney fans know she’s not a great singer but it doesn’t matter because that’s not what they’re there for and they’re not afraid to admit it.

music is more important than vocals. why do think taylor swift or justin beiber are more popular than those the voice contestants?
Idk JB but taylors main selling point is not incredible vocals, its her songwriting skills and versatility, most idols don't write stuff nor sing well, they are just lucky

That’s pop music from the very beginning
Beatles
Rolling Stones
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Kanye West
All traditionally poor singers. Also bestselling artists of all time
The standard is much much much lower for men though, which is shit
those are mostly known for their songwritinh and music producing skills, and Kanye is rapper
while idols can't even do that

Madonna, Britney Spears, Rihanna etc has incredible stage presence tho and they all built career on their fierce persona and sex appeal. They have incredible star power. Taylors main selling point is her songwriting skills.
But in kpop u have none of these still become popular cause u are from big company that can give u hit songs, i see kpop as a very skewed system

This is kpop and having good technique isn't even 20% of what these musical acts are offering.
Like, what is technique if you have bland vocal tones or have no emotion whatsoever?
Also, if you have rap in your songs but your rappers are a joke. Then no wonder you are not successful.
(Also, noise instrumentals and cringe lyrics)
Like, are people pretending like these are not factors holding back nost of these groups?

I mean this doesn't apply to just kpop

Some of y’all forget about the good music aspect. If the song is great, then you are gonna do good. That’s it. I’ll rather listen to someone with an above average vocals on a great track than someone with good vocals on an awful soundtrack
Also it’s weird how you listed BP and BTS when those artistes especially the latter are known for being stylistic vocalists, which is another strength on its own. Not everyone out there is seeking out-of-the-world vocal techniques

Well Mariah Carey had a more legendary career than 99% of other female singers so at least there is justice in that

There's plenty of amazing vocalists who've had amazing careers, Whitney, Celine, Adele. There are many things that affect why artists are successful, most bring something elite to propel them. Be it vocals, stage presence, writing/producing, etc. That's the problem with kpop though, I can honestly say that the best they have is mid in relation to real world artists. You compound it with not having any real input in the music they put out. So of course no one is going to take the genre seriously.
It's interesting because kpop doesn't make music for normal people, their focus is kpop fans, that's why they get away with what they get away with. I mean why worry about having talented artists, or great songs, if by selling the idol they can have kpop fans buy millions of albums independent of the skill of the artist or the quality of the song?
