Do you knit?

  • Well... I can't remember when was the last time I knitted something, but that feels like a long time ago.

I have kind of learned how to knit from my mother and my grandmother.

But I sometimes don't like knitting or the thing that I kind of had been forced to knit.

I felt like I was being taught to knit just because I was girl. (because I have a lot of female relatives, who knit, and also because knitting is most of the times seen as feminine, even though I think I have heard about how in the past men in my country knitted their own socks or something)

    I have often knitted scarves.

Especially when I was a child and wanted to knit scarves for my doll.

Even though I have this thing, where I have felt forced to knit, I have kind of wanted to knit something specific recently.

Well... if i want to knit sometimes, I have to pick up some yarn and knitting needles, and then also ask my mother or an other female relative for advice.

  • No, I'm afraid I can't. My mother tried to teach me once but I couldn't pick it up right handed and she couldn't teach me left handed as I am so I gave up. She was a very good knitter and would knit me jumpers. It's an old cottage craft you don't see much of these days.

  • I had to learn basic housekeeping skills at school but knitting and needlework weren't really my thing. I can probably knit a decent scarf but nothing more than that.
