They've always been a 3rd/3.5 gen group to me. For one, Koreans typically label the change of a generation when the BIG 3 groups debut or when there's a clear change in top groups. Like when Twice/Red Velvet took over for SNSD etc, right now it's AESPA/IVE etc taking over in the mainstream scene. Also it doesn't really make sense when G-idle has Soyeon who competed in PD101, and essentially is in the same "generation" as IOI, Weki Meki and those were 3rd gen as well. So they're at the very latest a 3.5 gen group.

OP's puzzled because idle didn't get compared to aespa, IVE or le sserafim when they debuted. In 2018. Makes sense!

They ARE 3rd gen just like the other 2018 debutees. Yall success stans could say otherwise all you want to prop up their achievements but gidle is obviously more spiritually and fundamentally and stylistically similar to groups in 3rd gen than 4th. I’ve been saying this since the beginning and of course I’m right once again 😌

The whole generation thing feels vague af

There's a thing called 3.5th gen which consists of G-idle, Stray Kids, Ateez, The Boys or anyone debuting before 2019.

I think it's because their songs doesn't sound childish like the rest of 4th gen

Ggs debuting in 2018 are 3rd gen

The thing is that bgs and ggs start differently the gens, EXO started the 3rd gen for bgs in 2012 but for ggs it was 2014, no one in their right mind considers AOA 3rd gen and they debuted at the same time as EXO. Basically if you get the umbers right, 2018 is the 4th gen for boys, and 2020 for ggs, even NMIXX debuts proves that, they are the actual 4th gen jyp gg

Generations start the same year.
It's like mixed gender twins, one doesn't say "I'm Gen X" and the other says "well I'm Gen Y".
Its patently absurd. Gens start and finish at the same time for both genders. So pick your category, but it applies to all groups in the same year.
