Allowing Guests to Comment

  • Should we allow guest to comment 19

    1. No (10) 53%
    2. Yez (6) 32%
    3. Maybe (3) 16%

ok, so I've been brainstorming how to increase activity.

I think many people lurk and never make an account or comment at all. We can tell by the number of guests who view threads. Often there are more guests viewing my thread than users and they can't comment or drive traffic.

Thus, I propose we allow guest to comment using a temporary account. Somewhat similar to the guest comment function in archive of our own. Thus guests who want to comment only for a certain thread or idol q and a can be active and post! Ofc the posts should be approved and moderated.

I think it would def drive activity which is something the forums need!

  • i second this... would probably encourage those users who seem too shy to post in main but stay exclusively in the anon section even in the positive threads so it's not like they're there for negativity. and I know this because their activity is not hidden so I can see them lurking :pepe-narrow-eyes:

Tbh I see a user called lurking anon in all my threads and they never comment!!!

  • I third the motion. I think this is a good idea. I do wonder about getting posts approved in a reasonable amount of time, plus having to approve and balance both approving Anons and guest posts, but hey, if it can be done, I'm all for it.

Dunno about that either. But we do need activity. Anons has tons of activity compared to main which we could harness through the guest function.

It might put off users who have anon section blocked though which is a thing to consider .... but it would definitely increase activity

  • i think it's a good idea but in the anon section where comment are already anonymous, i think letting guest comment there wouldn't be problematic

Well it could work in the anon section as well. Tbh the reason I dislike anon is because of the random names, I can't remember anyone eyy. Otherwise I would post more. Though we def need to focus on the main forums more

  • dismantling anons and making this idea come to life would bring more activity to the main forum

Tbh my goal. I dont think anons will be dismantled but we need activity on the main forum.

  • It might put off users who have anon section blocked though which is a thing to consider .... but it would definitely increase activity

Gonna be honest. I dont think ppl really block anons as much as they say lol. Ppl always know what's going on...

We probably have stats on how many users actually block them?

aldo we could have an option to block guest posts i suppose.

  • It might put off users who have anon section blocked though which is a thing to consider .... but it would definitely increase activity

It might, you do have a point, but if it's for the greater good, hopefully they'd understand. Maybe there can be an option to hide guest comments. They can still post there and be approved, but if people don't want to see them (they can't block them, they're only a guest after all), they could turn off guests comments. Would that idea work? Sort of how like when you block a user, you don't see thier post, but it's still there.

  • i don't really agree

Anon seem more dead than the main forum considering that the last comment in the anon section was 4hour ago in comparison the main forum is still very active

yeah but I don't think theres a need for guest accounts in anon... they're already anonymous and most people who visit this kpop forum will visit the kpop section also like violet said you will see the majority of guests in hit threads on the main section so if they had a way to post without committing to making an account they probably would

  • They can still post there and be approved

    it would take

    1. too much time for mods to approve every comment made by every guest

    2. it would be too messy, imagine if a guest is commenting in a thread who have been derail into fighting and between the time the mod approve the comment, the thread went peaceful again, approving this comment and post it would just make the fight in this thread re-start

  • well we do have more anons just no staff is approving them right now

Its true sometimes my anon posts take hours to be approved.

Probably just having more mods would make that section really active. Same with a guest function.

  • I don't think this is a good idea, staff dont have the time to be approving posts from guests, they're already busy enough with anons, I dont really approve posts anymore but I'm not sure staff would be bothered with that

ok then let it be unmoderated :pepe-shoooketh: but make it that if the post is reported then it gets hidden automatically if thats possible to do

  • + Imagine letting guest comment in the main forum, considering that they are guest they'll get a freepass in comparison of user who sign up, because they'll not have to respect as much the akp rules in comparison of us because they are just guest, they'll not be afraid to be ban etc.....

and the Forum will be dying because nobody would want to sign up here if they can comment as a guest, which means nobody would be interested in buying ALLKILL or akorn which are the main revenue of the forum with ads

That is true, and something I didn't think about. I don't know how we'd fix that to be honest.

naur the guests will be lured in by the pretty aesthetics and sense of community from the nice (?) users they interact and fight with which will make them want to make an account X(

  • It's too much of a workload and would be a logistical nightmare.

Anon approvals, mod reports, and lexicon/calendar entries and edits all go into the same inbox to be looked at. It would be a mess for staff to add guests to that.

  • btw this is quite funny imo, that Kpop seems bigger than ever with more kpop fans everyday but Every kpop fandom seem to die

where are all these new kpop fans hiding ?

its the sales being inflated giving us this false idea :pepe-high-five: there are actually only 50 kpop stans that just bulk buy and mass spam

  • Technically it is possible, but like we have to read every anon before posting it, the same would be for guests

WE definitely cant have it unmoderrated and let them post whatever, cause then they could post rule breaks or bash users or other stuff.

I can possibly see it working, if we hire users specifically for approving posts but yeah not sure the staff will go for that.

or just make it easier for guests posts to be removed? if a report comes in they should be removed/ hidden

Hmm well we could have only regular users be able to buy badges, dm others, post on walls, in certain dubforums etc to encourage users to sign up!

  • or just make it easier for guests posts to be removed? if a report comes in they should be removed/ hidden

Eyy if reported they are hidden till a mod sees it? Sounds plausible.

  • Wouldn't this just essentially let people that were permabanned back into the forum? Or let free reign on people having alt account (effectively)?

Unless the mods can see the IPs of guests. And then it's just creating more work for those mods.

Ngl it will. but truth be told the forums need activity. Ofc is anything is reported it should be immediately hidden etc. But im just bouncing ideas to get more activity etc.

Forums have been a dying medium for years. Most places have a small pool of regular users and the a bunch of transient users. Social media and Reddit pretty much took most of the activity from most forums.

There are some people that I wouldn't want back here under any means.

I don't feel that the extra activity would be worth the disgusting things that would slip through with it.
