What is Seventeen’s appeal?

They’re selling more than a million first day but…why are they so big? I never here anyone talking about them, they haven’t had a hit in a while, no relevant members in Korea too…Where do their sales come from?

I think you really don’t understand how popular Boo Seungkwan is, he even won a variety daesang just alone. Nearly everyone know him.

Even their last come back, Hot and Darling haven’t dropped out of melon top 100, in fact it’s still sitting comfortably in the top 50. Even their most recent comeback “World” is doing amazing on charts.

I don’t understand why Western fans feel so entitled. If someone isn’t as popular in the West, doesn’t mean they aren’t popular or successful in another part of the world. As I usually say, Asia, has always been Seventeen’s playground.

That’s a complete lie, no album of theirs has 10 versions. I don’t know where you got the info from, but you really need to stop trusting the antis on twt.

I'm guessing you're not Korean, but just an expert on Korea and Korean people? Boo Seungkwan is a regular on variety shows, he's very well known. Mingyu gets a lot of CF's. DK and Hoshi have been growing in profile for a while.

Only Seungkwan is known to the gp.

They are big in korea -they have hits in korea. Have you seen the melon chart recently. They are one of only 3 active boy groups consistently charting every comeback - BTS, seventeen, NCT

Some of us actually like their songs? For me their biggest appeal is their great team-work; I enjoyed watching their variety show, and kinda admire their friendship. They seem genuinely like each other & still working hard as ever in their 7th years of career.

If you think they're nugu, they're not, they're 3rd most streamed groups on MelOn history & their Spotify isn't bad either. Got loyal fandom (biggest are SK, PH & JP), all their tracks from FTS entered MelOn top 100, this repacked album also all entered top 100, _World peaked at 9 so far. Doing real good rn.

What happened to carats? I'm not active here for probably more than a year since akp change the whole site layout, and yeah I remember there were plenty of them?

they're a group full of stan attractors. i'm not even a carat but whatever clips I've happened to see (usually while scrolling youtube, twitter, or tiktok) they're just a fun bunch of guys and they give off good wholesome energy. and tbh that's increasingly becoming rare for a lot of boy groups. I won't mention names cuz don't want to derail but it's clear seventeen all like each other and that's attractive to fans.

You never hear anyone talk about them because most of their fans are in Asia, and more specifically Korea and Japan. Western carats also seem to generally keep to themselves and you don't see them on a lot of forums like these. Surprisingly a lot on Twitter, they just don't interact much with other group fans and most other group fans don't care about Seventeen (or just straight up dislike them)

Not having a hit is stupid because no boy groups besides BTS and Big Bang have had actual hits in recent years. By that standard, basically no boy groups have any appeal. Anyways Seventeen get streams and is one of the best charting boy groups in Korea currently so... they had 2 songs in Melon's top 10 streamed 2022 songs and both of these songs, Dar+ling and HOT, have charted for months now and were the most recent on the list

No relevant members in Korea? Seungkwan exists and how many boy groups even have actually relevant members these days? No, western kpop stan twitter does not count.

As far as what's appealing about them:

Music: my advice is to actually listen to their albums/music and not just random title tracks. Face The Sun, Heng:Garae, An Ode, Going Seventeen, Your Choice, Attacca, A1, and Semicolon are my album recommendations. Every album has great songs though such as Our Dawn is Hotter than Day. Check out all of their title tracks too while you're at it

Dancing: fun and unique choreography, no dancing holes, one of the most synchronized groups which makes a lot of formations and movements cool to watch

Vocals: They have good vocals. Seungkwan and DK being some of the best in the idol industry

Funny likable members: All the members are likable and I find them one of the funniest groups I've watched. The members' dynamic is good, they play off each other well, and they all seem close. Their variety show is popular for a reason, check out Going Seventeen
