RE : i-fans don't realise that album sales are all online internet talk, but in real life people associate idols with their hit songs and projects

  • True. Hits create legacy not bulk buys

  • True. All the people in real life who are not kpop fans only mention their songs collabs and sometimes crazy YouTube records and views. I've never met anyone in real life talking about CDs.

  • You can see this most clearly with those BGs who don't really have a big hit, but sale like crazy.

The KPOP fandoms know them, but if you ask someone who isn't really into KPOP, they couldn't tell you the songs, the members, nothing lol. Let alone how many albums they sell.

But, either way the company wins and the group can be successful. If the public knows them, means more brand deals, tv appearances, and career longevity for individual members in Korea. If they have a fanbase, means great album sales, and better touring profitability for the members (though their solo prospects are weaker. especially for the none pushed members/none fan favorites).

  • Are we talking about Korea or internationally? Unless you're interested in kpop, you're still not gonna know unless you get a ton of exposure to them.

  • If we're talking the Korean GP then yes,I would agree.

If we're talking internationally, there's no such thing as the ''general public'' to begin with since k-pop is still very much a niche thing. Therefore, album sales are very much relevant to i-fans,as we all know.Any sort of record-breaking achievements are.

When people talk about SNSD's legacy, for example, the one thing that's always mentioned are their unreachable album sales that were giving even BGs a run for their money.
