Do 4th gen girl groups do better in kcharts than 3rd gen girl groups now?

    Approved the thread.
  • 4th gen has already surpassed 3rd gen, sometime last year.

Songs that have reached top 10ish on Melon Daily since 2021:

    Run2U

    ASAP

    Next Level

    Savage

    Dreams Come True

    Tomboy

    Eleven

    Love Dive

    Fearless

    Dun Dun Dance

    Feel My Rhythm

    Alcohol Free

In addition, 4th gen already has two national hits during this timeframe, plus another #1 song with PAKs.

When was the last #1 song for a third gen GG? How You Like That?

  • Queendom also reached top 10, but hitting the top 10 is an stupid measure, a hit now in sk completely depends on the songs, not the groups. Only IU and BTS are the ones with a secured number 1 or 2 in sk everytime they release, BP is behind them but with a secured top 10. But no other act has a secured hit when they release, so there is no definitive naswer to say the 4th gen does better than 3rd gen. Let's break down the list of have you have there:

Aespa, the one with most supposed hits in your list only has NL and Savage(lowkey) as hits, DCT is doing worse than Queendom and AF despite peaking higher, Savage needs the longevity but will likely end in the same level as DDD

Stayc's songs are the same, ASAP was outdone by DDD and Run2u is in the same path as DCT, its lacking a lot of longevity and it will likely be outdone by AF and Queendom.

IVE+Les Serafim needs the longevity, Eleven and Fearless didn't peak higher than 300k uls, AF and Queendom both out did them in that, and both peaked higher than Fearless.

Love Dive and Tomboy are clearly looking to be a big hit among NL, but that's it.

I think its better to look at the context of the charting and also the overall way the songs are perfoming, not putting them as hits just cause they hit a top 10

  • It is a non question.

    3rd gen is almost done.

Mamamoo, Twice all have ramped down. OMG didn't shine in the last comeback, RV has been average for years now.

Only Blackpink is yet to show decline, but then they haven't shown music either.

The space is wide open for 4th gen and so far IDLE, IVE have shown promise of filling the space. LSF, STAYC, ITZY as well

3rd gen will still puff along for sometime.. Getting to top 20s, but the days of their domination seem done. They are looking at solo or acting careers.

  • There aren't that many 3rd gen girl groups, there's what, maybe like 10 3rd girl groups left?

    The rest are no more.

And the only ones of those that still seem to do well and keeping up with 4th gen ggs are Blackpink and Red Velvet.

Oh My Girl and Brave Girls were slaying last year, but their most recent releases did mediocre on kcharts, the same with TWICE's releases of the past years for some reason, and Mamamoo are nowhere to be seen on the k-charts since last year.

So yeah, 4th gen is rising.

Sure, I agree that 4th gen's doing alright, but what foolishness is this post?

Red Velvet average for years now? Say what? At the end of 2020 Psycho was the highest ranking #1 girl group song in Gaon's annual chart, Queendom ended up #5 on Gaon's weekly charts and Feel My Rhythm #3, which shows more consistency and are better results than of most 3rd gen AND 4th gen groups the past years.

Oh My Girl might have a disappointing last comeback, but they were absolutely slaying it in 2020 and 2021, again better than most 4th gen groups.

Additionally, anyone saying TWICE are done is being way too presumptuous since TWICE are still very much active and thriving in other areas.
